The image must be captured while the competition is open. It is a Reason To Fly Challenge so please show that the image is created by a flying camera!

If this is not done at the time of posting the picture will be ignored. Should it be necessary to change your picture then delete the previous picture and add “This is my entry” - as above - as the first line of your new post. If in any doubt contact the Challenges Committee
(@Challenges_Committee)

Further Information is required

  • Location
  • Time and date
  • Aircraft/camera used
  • Feel free to add any further information that you think will be of interest

Voting

The members of GADC will judge images. They may vote for any number of pictures through an anonymous poll open for two days after the closing date for competition entries.

Voting in the poll is open to all GADC members, whether they have entered the competition or not.

The Challenge Committee may request the original media in case of a dispute.

Schedule

The competition subject will be announced every second Saturday around 22:30. The subject will be chosen by a poll of GADC members selecting from three that have been picked at random from the subject list. You may make additions to the list at any time.

The competition will run from Sunday 00.01 to Saturday 23.00 fourteen days later. Voting by poll will be open for a further two days until Monday 22:00

The winner (and second and third-placed competitors if there are sufficient entries) will be announced shortly after the vote is closed

Have Fun! Be Safe!

All flights are the sole responsibility of the individual conducting them. Each competitor must abide by the drone code and adhere to the limitations and restrictions imposed upon them by aviation law, the aircraft being used and the qualifications they hold. Also, it takes much longer to get up North, the slow way. If a flight is undertaken in a restricted zone proof of permission having been granted is required.

  • A fairly recently ploughed field (was Maize this year) with some very straight lines. These modern tractors probably all use GPS now anyway and it’s hard to criticize that when drones do too :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:.

I’ve also tried to include some power cables for a bit more interest but being cables they aren’t really very straight! I could argue that the hedge lines and the path by the river are also pretty straight though so there is a lot going on!

Probably not as cool or nice as other entries will be but it got me out there having a go!

Bennerley Viaduct is an iconic landmark in the East Midlands. Standing 20 metres high above the valley of the River Erewash, and a quarter of a mile long, it is no surprise it is known as The Iron Giant of the Erewash Valley. Grade II* listed, this rare engineering triumph was was built in 1877-78 by the Great Northern Railway to carry the Friargate Line from Nottingham to Derby. Born from the age of steam, iron and coal, it is the longest Victorian wrought iron viaduct in the country and one of only two still standing. Connecting Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, it was described by the World Monuments Fund as “an extraordinary monument” and by Historic England as “a stunning example of the genius of British Engineering.”

When I arrived there was an Avat 2 (I think) flying around, but by the time I got the far end of the viaduct the pilot had packed up, so if it was anyone here, hi and sorry I missed you.

The Manor is currently closed to the public for conservation works, but it is possible to park and launch from close by the road entrance to the site.
The straight lines are the sunbeams that shine through the windows into the shadow of the building beyond.

I am trying to submit my entry, and the image upload terminates with the message below. Any idea what this error message means? I wondered if it is because the image size exceeds some limit?

Thanks, I’ll disable the vpn as that does sometimes give the other end of the connection reason to think my internet is slow.

Mirroring the bedding planes of the local geology, these World War Two era tracks were the launching rails of an experimental anti-ship missile. According to an information board, the device was never perfected; when tested it went wildly off-course, and destroyed a chicken coop on a nearby farm.

The horizontal lines are from a medieval narrow rig ridge and furrow field, the nearest to London. The vertical lines are, I think from drains and slanting shadows from trees. A little different form of lines. See: https://www.pinnervillagegardens.org.uk/ for details.

Weather totally non-drone friendly. Had to keep low in the lee of Oliver’s Mount to fly. Only straight lines I could find were this path and the trees either side!

Well done everyone else, some lovely pics, very imaginative.

Sadly real-life and the weather have conspired against me this time, though I did have a target in mind :frowning:

I may post a Google Earth view of what I had in mind once all valid entries are in.
