RTF Photo Competition October 26th to November 8th - Autumn - Winners Announced

Despite the plea from our Antipodean correspondent, your utterly predictable and unimaginative choice for this round is Autumn. It looks like you may have some typical autumn weather to go with it over the next fortnight - wet and windy!

As a rare concession to a contestant @leighwalker - Leigh - you can give us a picture of Straya in the Spring - migrating drop bears or redback spiders bringing down fully grown roos or whatever happens on your remote continent

RULES

The requirement is to submit a single still image created using a drone to illustrate the subject of the competition. This round will run from 00:01 Sunday 26th October until 23:00 Saturday November 8th; the subject is Autumn (or Spring for those in the Southern Hemispere)

The image must be captured while the competition is open. It is a Reason To Fly Challenge so please show that the image is created by a flying camera!

Editing is confined to colour and exposure adjustments and crop only. There must be no removal or pasting of an object. Stacked images, HDR images and non-spherical panoramas are considered single images for the purposes of this competition.

Images must be posted with the following information as a minimum:

In Capitals as the first line of your post:

THIS IS MY ENTRY

If this is not done at the time of posting the picture will be ignored. Should it be necessary to change your picture then delete the previous picture and add “This is my entry” - as above - as the first line of your new post. If in any doubt contact the Challenges Committee
(@Challenges_Committee)

Further Information is required

  • Location
  • Time and date
  • Aircraft/camera used
  • Feel free to add any further information that you think will be of interest

Voting

The members of GADC will judge images. They may vote for any number of pictures through an anonymous poll open for two days after the closing date for competition entries.

Voting in the poll is open to all GADC members, whether they have entered the competition or not.

The Challenge Committee may request the original media in case of a dispute.

Schedule

The competition subject will be announced every second Saturday around 22:30. The subject will be chosen by a poll of GADC members selecting from three that have been picked at random from the subject list. You may make additions to the list at any time.

The competition will run from Sunday 00.01 to Saturday 23.00 fourteen days later. Voting by poll will be open for a further two days until Monday 22:00

The winner (and second and third-placed competitors if there are sufficient entries) will be announced shortly after the vote is closed

Have Fun! Be Safe!

All flights are the sole responsibility of the individual conducting them. Each competitor must abide by the drone code and adhere to the limitations and restrictions imposed upon them by aviation law, the aircraft being used and the qualifications they hold. Also, it takes much longer to get up North, the slow way. If a flight is undertaken in a restricted zone proof of permission having been granted is required.

  • A local park full of autumn colour and a fantastic variety of trees. Rockley Memorial Park is dedicated to local men who died in the Great War. Mr. Lisle Rockley, whose son William was killed at Ypres in 1917, bought the land in the 1920s, created the park and adjacent cliff walk then presented the site to the village in 1927.

I really love the colours in this shot. I took a similar one a couple of weeks back and was so pleased with it I thought it would be great for this challenge too but obviously I needed to visit again.

I have actually recorded the position as a waypoint now as well so I need to try and take a picture again in different seasons to try and capture the changes.

It was quite a bright sunny morning so not sure if I should have dialled the brightness down a bit. This was in auto but with an ND8 filter fitted. Maybe needed a stronger filter or to fiddle with the pro settings a bit more?

Went to Applestore cafe for Lunch (forgetting it was half term so quite busy). Sitting below Nicky Nook a small but pleasant little hill and a popular local walk, the slopes of which are on the left in the photo. The cafe in the buildings to the right, located in an Arboretum.

Not the best of light, however first opportunity to get out with the crap weather we’ve been having lately, and seemed to be only quiet day forecast in upcoming few days.

  • This was a rare combination - I had spare time and the wind/rain actually stopped for a bit on Sunday so managed to get out and get some shots. Feels like I may have missed the best colours which were a few weeks earlier but the sun helped bring out some of the browns!

Cheers

I love all the colours on the autumnal trees
but the leaves around here have all flown on the breeze
Time is getting tight, Guy Fawkes night!
The raindrops waft by
Up you go little drone, hope you stay dry
enough to fly
And avoid getting shot out of the sky

Nope, I never did get the English prize at school!
And yes, I really do love the trees at the moment, especially the acers.

Ok, I struggle to understand how replies work here! I wanted to tell @GCSkyScapes that I liked the picture, the close crop and the contrasting colours and textures But then got puzzled when, thinking my reply would go under the relevant picture, it ends up at the bottom of the list, seemingly unattached to anything!
Anyway, that was what i was trying to say!
Lots to learn!!

When you want to reply to a person, hit the reply arrow under the person’s message. (If you hover the cursor over that arrow you’ll see it says you are replying to this post). Your text box will open and it will show that it is directed at that person specifically. If you hit the arrow at the side of the text column (hover the cursor over the arrow and it will show you are replying to the topic, not the person). I hope that makes sense!

Thank you! That helps.
