Hi there! Before you post, have you selected the most appropriate category for your new topic?
Hi there , looking at the DJI Mini 4 pro combo as there a good price at moment is this worth considering or would the Mini 5 pro be a better buy at this time.
Both are excellent small drones. In reality, the Mini 5 Pro doesnāt really offer a lot more than the Mini 4 Pro:
A slightly longer flight times - in practice, barely noticeable in real world flying.
A slightly larger image sensor - in practice, barely any noticeable improvement in image quality.
Easier to replace props - which youāll probably very seldom need to do.
Slightly better wind resistance - at last, a definite advantage, albeit relatively minor.
The free panorama mode - definitely a nice to have, but hardly essential.
Thatās about it!
Those whoāve recently dropped the thick end of Ā£1000 on the newer model will probably say that their drone is vastly superior to its predecessor, but beware of confirmation bias
I have both. The Mini 5 Pro is superior but probably not āvastly superiorā.
Itās more stable in the wind, it has a higher top speed, the camera is better (it has better low-light performance and a usable ālosslessā 2x zoom) and the obstacle avoidance is better (with front-facing LIDAR). The free panorama mode is also genuinely useful to me, although I havenāt really found any use for the fancy rotating gimbal.
Whether the Mini 5 Pro is £200+ better, would be up for debate and depends on how much you need/want the upgrades. The Mini 4 Pro is a fantastic drone and has most of the features. Most of the improvements are incremental.
One other point to make is that the Mini 4 Pro is sold as sub-250g, whereas the Mini 5 Pro is not. That can have a slight impact on how easy it is to fly it abroad (e.g. Canada, the US). It has less of an impact in the UK and the EU though as both drones are C0-marked so they can both fly in the least-restricted A1 subcategory (i.e. over people).
I do a good amount of commercial flying in London and replaced my trusty Mini 3 Pro for a Mini 5 pro. Iāve only had the Mini 5 a couple of weeks, but in hindsight I wish Iād bought the Air3s instead for numerous reasons, but mostly - better zoom on the Air3s, noticeably longer flight time per battery and more stability when it is windy (a must when flying between tight gaps between buildings ).
Have fun whatever you buy, but if you are able to stretch to the Air3s I think youāll be pleased you did
There is some nice deals on the mini 4 pro recently, That would be my pick over the 2 as i donāt think the price difference is worth nearly Ā£300 more.
Just my opinion but if your going to spend near £1000 on a mini 5 pro you should probably consider the air 3s,
i have the mini 4 pro and air 3s they both have there place but i find my self using the air 3s way more it just handles the wind much better and thatās the main thing for me especially this time of year haha.
i only really use the mini 4 pro now if i am trying to be silent as once its above 50m you can hardly hear it where with the air 3s 100m up and 100m away you can still hear it.
I had both until I sold the Mini 4 Pro last week. The image quality in the 5 is a lot better than the 4, itās also a lot more stable and itās better in the wind than 4 too.
I have the same combo, but strangely enough, I find the Air 3 less noticeable than the Mini 4 Pro in terms of noise emission. On paper, it definitely emits a higher dB, but maybe because of its lower tone and better capability in high winds, I notice it less.
My preference would be to buy the Air3s unless portability and overseas flying is the priority. The 3 x zoom is amazing and will help towards keeping you legal whilst getting those stealth shots and video!!
Interesting to hear that - were you disappointed with the Air3s zoom? I guess a āfantasticā zoom though equates to getting a heavier drone flying in a different class and beyond the chapās budget.
I used to own a Matrice 300 with H20 camera (200 x zoom, 23 x being optical), so now using the Mini series itās taken some adjustment (for me) and necessitating much closer flying to buildings in often gusty conditions, so the optical zoom on the Air3s vs the crop of the Mini 5 Pro certainly has appeal (to me).
Iām not disappointed with the zoom, but those buying an Air 3s for the first time should be aware itās no Hubble telescope. Now I borrowed a Mavic 3 Pro for a few weeks last year, that was an amazing zoom.
I went frim a mini 3 non pro to the 5 pro. I cant seevany difference in image or video quality and as i dont usevany of the features it feels no different whatsoever. The only thing i notice is it is significantly faster.
I would completely agree. The Mini 3 Pro and Mini 4 Pro share the same cameras, and the wide camera on the Air 3S is identical to the camera on the Mini 5 Pro. For stills photography in daylight you will be hard pressed to discern any difference whatsoever between the 1ā or the 1/1.3ā cameras. I canāt speak for video as Iām 99.9% stills, but I would anticipate a similar result. At night-time, the 1ā sensor may have the edge, but again it isnāt noticeable in a finished print.
I feel the OP should really be asking, āCan I get away with a Mini 4 Pro, or should I bite the bullet and go all in with an Air 3S?ā
If its a long term purchase and you donāt wan to upgrade or anything then its the 5 pro all the way. I had the 4 pro until I got the 5 pro and now thatās all I need. The features on it are top notch
