South Ayrshire "No Drone Zone" campaign

Please excuse an old post revival but i have a relevant question regarding this.

Has anyone sought the authorisations as a private or commercial individual to legaly use a drone within an airport exclusion zone? or is it more hassle than its worth?

My situation is this… I am a hobby user , have flight ID and operator ID and responsible and legal , my colleague who lives in Preswick asked if i could use my drone to have a quick scan of his bungalow roof max height would be 15 meters i suppose! I would not be recieving any payment , it is a favour for a friend only.
drone is a sub250 gram model.
I have the ability as most have to set ceiling height of flight yada yada.
Should i say just tape a gopro to a long stick and look at the roof yourself ? ( in the kindest possible fashion)
Interesting to see if it is a brick wall or not.

thanks

I live within the frz of Scotlands largest commercial airport and didn’t think I’d be able to fly around my garden and the open fields surrounding it. I sent the tower operators an email with co-ordinates of my house, type of drone, operator id etc and asked if I’d be able to fly. Their response was “yes no problem, just email us half an hour before you intend to fly. Depending on what’s leaving and coming in we may ask you to cap height at 40mtrs AGL.”

Its always worth asking, the worst they can do is say no.

I photograph & film weddings for a living and do a lot of work in Ayrshire, so have been on to Prestwick ATC several times for permission to fly. They are great to deal with with, but the biggest pain is that they won’t even consider your request to fly before getting a Police Scotland incident number. First time I tried to get through on 101 it took me 15mins, then the guy had me hanging on the phone for about 10mins as he had no idea what I was talking about. It’s been better on other occasions, got my Police incident number faster, then an email to Prestwick and got permission pretty quickly. All you do then is phone the tower on the day, just before you take off and then let them know when you are finished.

Any issues with the DJI geo-fencing John @Drumsagard ???

None John, I just did a self unlock on the DJI Fly Safe website. I’ve also done some of these for some of the Glasgow football stadiums, no issues at all.
