Spitbank fort - Added to Beaches and Seaside Resorts in South East

I have just added this to the map of places to fly your drone at Drone Scene:

Land owner permission not required.

Spitbank Fort Southsea I parked in the local parking area. There are lots of free parking however you are limited to two hours.

The originator declared that this location was not inside a Flight Restriction Zone at the time of being flown on 11/07/2021. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location.

You must have been brave to fly the drone out this far. It’s giving me courage to do the same though.

Been out there several times. :+1:

Check out @richardmarsh888’s vids in this search.
He’s big at adventuring into the waters between Southsea and the IoW.

Beautiful :star_struck:

Not as far as you would think… I oddly found it easier to fly out to Spitbank than crossing Southampton Water at its widest part!

I flew here just this weekend. It’s recently changed hands after having been empty since the pandemic. I wonder what’s coming next…

Looks good, I might give it a go.

I’ve just added a new Take Off And Landing marker to this location @Tonymc :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi, hope to fly here soon.

Plan to use the Mini 3 Pro.
I was wondering if you can let me know what your approx batttery levels were when you arrived and returned?

I know there are variables etc, but knowing would be useful especially if you flew with the Mini 3 Pro or even the Mavic Air2.

Thanks

I’ve easily managed two rounds trips to the fort on one battery. I was flying the Mavic Pro that has a shorter total flight time, so you have no worries with the Mini 3 Pro for a single trip.

Edit: Just looked back at a typical flight to the fort. Probably more relevant than battery info, the flight was just under 9 mins which included a couple of mins flying around the fort. Just a steady 30kph/18mph on the way out and back.

I went on on 100% and returned back around 70%

I only carried out a couple of laps around the fort.

Have you, or do you know anyone who has ventured further to Horse Sand Fort?

@OzoneVibe ?

Not yet, but it would be interesting. Needs a calm-ish day, but it’s less than a 15 minute round trip.

Theoretically, all three forts can be done in one flight … if you have a drone that manages about 21 minutes on a battery. Theoretically, my Mavic Pro can do this … but I’d need to check if any of my aging batteries can still manage that long.
