St James Church Ruins, Oxon - Added to Historic Buildings in South East

I have just added this to the map of places to fly your drone at Drone Scene:

Land owner permission requirements unknown.

I believe this is the only site with the ruins of a church in Oxfordshire. The church was abandoned in 1875 and quickly fell into disrepair. The site has also been a location used in a couple of horror films from 50 or 60 years ago.

There is a parking verge just opposite the entrance to the field with the church. Just up the road is the Warburg Nature Reserve - worth a visit in its own right, but something to be mindful of when flying here.

The originator declared that this location was not inside a Flight Restriction Zone at the time of being flown on 07/01/2025. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location.

@Howard Howard
I see there’s no people about in your pano & video but was there any people about when you visited & what time ?
I might pop out here over the weekend & find a couple of places in & around, I can’t believe I didn’t know this place was here having taken this route every week for quite a some years on & off when working on the tankers doing the pumping stations in & around for Thames water.

Edit : not going off topic did you know this is just up the road, I used to sit near here & eat my dinner sometimes, very residential tho.

This was on Tuesday of this week, about 4 pm. There’s a farm nearby and the lane ends at the BBOWT Warburg Nature Reserve. The ruins are not within the nature reserve, but I saw maybe a half-dozen red kites soaring far above when I was putting the drone away. I have some still photos on Flickr

My wife and I were the only ones there, and she was reading a book in the car whilst I did a single flight. We had walked around the reserve beforehand and the only people we saw were a group of workers and volunteers doing some clearing there.

It’s a road to nowhere a mile or two off the main road from Henley, and you won’t be bothered that much, I should think. Weekends might be different though.

I know Nettlebed but I didn’t know about the brick kiln … Thanks for the tip!

Thanks buddy appreciated just got my kit ready for tomorrow :smiley:
Yes the kiln up the road be ok for sub 250g drones so that counts me out so I’ll settle for a few phone snaps on that once again thanks !

Looks like an interesting day for it today. Here in Oxford there’s mist and frost and changing light … I look forward to your results.
