I have just added this to the map of places to fly your drone at Drone Scene:
Land owner permission requirements unknown.
Admin Update 03/10/21 - The island is now a nature reserve.

After posting some pictures I was warned that the area was now an sssi (Site of Special Scientific Interest) I found this sign and it looks like it is now an sssi from Tynemouth to Seaton sluice. By all accounts they are gathering info to prosecute people. so Id avoid the area unfortunately
This just came up on my feed.
Great video,
I go here a lot - parents live nearby - and there are newer signs up asking drone operators to give the island a wide berth, mainly I think because there is a large colony of Grey Seals that like to lie up on the rocks to the NE of the island itself, but you do get nice flocks of wading birds etc as well.
The SSSI runs along all of the Northumberland shore, and includes a large number of busy beaches. My research indicates that unless byelaws have been passed, drone operators will only be in the wrong if they intentionally or recklessly disturb any of those fauna found in an SSSI (Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981 (Section 28P, Offences, subsection 6A (b) ).
Next time I’m up I’ll see what the new signage says, and speak to the volunteer wardens there, and see if I can give everyone a better picture of options for drone operating in this area.
First post - please be kind!
and a very useful one too
Why not pop along to introductions and tell us a bit about yourself
I’ve just added a new Parking marker to this location
