Video taken this afternoon. Only just getting the hang of this video editing lark ( DaVinci Resolve 18)
Constructive comments welcome.
Enjoy

Ahh, thanks guys. Wondered why it didn’t show up like that.
Nice one Jon know the area well as only live a stones throw away, I took my mini 1 down there when I 1st started out. I have a proper ball clenching moment as I was hovering over the cannel, the bloody thing decided it wonted to land and came vey close to it.
I have the footage somewhere he pic quality of those Pro 3 is amazing is it 4k ?, have you got a Instagram account as I not on YT…
Sadly I haven’t got an Instagram account ( dunno, maybe I do, but if so It’s long forgotten) Only just really messing about with the video editing stuff ( DaVinci Resolve) but it’s a steep learning curve. Still not got a handle on adding the more complex transitions between clips, nor doing anything more than the simple titles yet. Yep the missus kept telling me to stay well above the water ( I think she was more worried than me, but relaxed afterI bought her a pint at the Bubble)
We’ll have to meet up one day and have a fly.
Good start, Im just a little bit ahead of you in experience - it is a complex thing to do all the movements and make a video !
Try to smooth out your turns and zooms, again it takes practice, use Cine mode, it’s great for this… Make shorter clips and hide the jerky bits by fading to the next clip. Try to shoot wide view, medium view and a closer view sequences of a subject.
Good luck, good start.
@JockyB Nice 1st edit John, mine was crap! When I started just over a year ago I was advised to keep clips to 5 seconds or so (I dont always do this but I understand why), dont use transitions other than dissolve or fade and like Jon said vary the the distance and angles from the subject (top down, up and down as you yaw, side views and parallax for example). Look on YT for adjusting your RC settings to make parallax moves easier. There are some great ones showing you how to gimbal up or down as you move fwd, backwards or ascending/descending etc. Take 3 times the video than you need so you have plenty of clips to cut your mistakes out. Smooth is your friend! Oh and most of all enjoy it!
Thanks guys. I tend to take around 1 minute to 2 minutes of video at a time. I thought these could be cut into shorter clips in DaVinci, ( but ain’t got that far yet) I’ll take on board what you have said about keeping individual clips shorter. Still struggling to do anything but the basic fade out- fade in when trying to join clips. YouTube videos make it seem so easy and effortless. Yes, I will use cine mode more in future to try and make turns, etc more smoother ( including altering the settings in each mode)
What speed do you recommend to shoot video in ? Up to now I’m using the basic 24? fps. Should I be using a higher fps rate ?
Thanks in advance
John
I’m new to all this too. The best advice I’ve picked up for videos is to make each clip do one thing - essentially move in one direction, so you don’t see the drone change direction, etc. Also keep the clips short. And finally try and make the flow of the clips tell a story, or at least have some sort of logic to the order they are in - not always easy!
But all that is just to get a particular style of video. You should do what suits what you want to produce
Depends what you’re doing but generally I shoot in 4K:30fps with an ND filter that allows me to use a nuetral EV at 1/60 ss (using the 180 rule). I always lock ISO at 100 unless its pitch black out there!
PS you dont need to use a transition between clips. Generally I only use dissolve if joining a fast moving clip to a slower one, or fade when the subject changes completely, else dont bother. After all Pros dont use them in films or tv shows unless its a cheesy advert!
