Stuttery digital image

Grrrr… i thought digital would answer all my prayers.
Got the Source 1 V5 pretty much built.
Fired up the DJI v1 goggles (ebay)- did the software update, 700mw available so all good there.
Caddx vista unit with Nebula Pro nano (also S/H) firmware update kept failing, something to do with connections. But the naco 1 hack seemed to be onboard.

Tried pairing them anyway, and everything works…BUT, the image stutters, its driving me up the wall, like horrible motion blur. Stationary, the image is gorgeous, as soon as you move the camera - jittery stuttery. Maybe something to do with shutter speed, seems Nebula pro nanos shutterspeed is 120fps, which i thought was quick.

Ahhh this hobby…

I’ll also point out, i haven’t actually armed the quad yet,
So low power mode is in effect, will take explain a jerky image?

pixilated maybe but I wouldn’t say jerky. How are you powering the vista? also make sure you haven’t got a cold solder joint on your power and ground into the vista.

Just out of curiosity how have you mounted the Camera into the frame?

Can you upload some DVR of the issue to youtube and post the link here so that we can see the issue? :+1:t2:

I’ll have a go at recording some footage… vista is mounted in a 3d printed cradle.
Soldering could be an issue… vista end is soldered - by someone who knew what they were doing - then I found a plug, with tails, that fitted the DJI socket on the Speedybee PDB, so i soldered wires to wires… maybe too many joints, and soldering is still a challenge!

What is a cold solder joint?

Cold solder joint is just where you didn’t melt all the solder that was there so the connection is not consistant and it’s possible there isn’t a good connection from wire to metal pad (or wire to wire in your case.)

Simple to fix, just heat your solder iron up and reheat the solder joint again until the solder is all melted. If you have it, a touch of flux before you apply the iron will reduce the time you need to hold it there and help the bond.

this is fine as long as they are soldered properly and insulated because the carbon fibre frame is conductive and could cause a short. It sounds like a loose connection to me so the vibration from the movement is breaking the connection causing the slight drop in power might be the cause of the jittering.

Or a loose mipi cable (the cable from the camera to the vista)

Sorry, i read Vista, first time round. I found a slightly rubbery frame ftom a old build that fits around a nano camera, so it fits a micro space…

Any joy with the video of the issue?

Not yet, now having PDB issues… no.3 motor is failing at high rpm, whatever motor I use.

Then actual life took over, and I remembered I had to be a husband and a Dad!

Where are you based in the country? maybe attending a meet where someone can take a look at it for you and try and get it in the air could be an option?

I’m in Bristol… haven’t really looked at clubs yet.

You’re here, this is a club :+1:t2:

That’s pretty easy to get too, if you’ve got a local flying area where you normally fly. post up a meet in the meet up section with the details throw a few possible dates down and see what intrest you get. :+1:t2: It’s worth a shot. Get a few of us together for a fly and I’m sure between us all we’ll get you in the air in no time or at the very least point you in the right direction of what the issues are :+1:t2:

Ok… I’m making progress!
Switched a few sliders on Betaflight, now the DJI low power mode unlocks upon arming - and the hideous stuttery image has transformed into gorgeous digital smoothness.

Now I’m trying to get my OSD sorted.
Crosshairs are offline, artificial horizon is non existent, (in fact it feels like the whole screen is off to the left on 100% zoom) - I know what you’re going say… WTFOS! Got to summon the mental energy first!

Aaaand crazy, mishaving, drone wrecking, intermittent motor madness was completely sorted with a new PDB!

Getting there…

The V1 DJI system doesn’t really support OSD well… so yeah WTFOS, 30 mins well spent hah. As long as you got BF 4.4 or above.

It really is easy now. Use the butter package and off you go.

I wouldn’t fly with out WTFOS any more. All my vistas and air units get hacked at first power up never to look back! And a huge :fu:t2: to DJI

And is also the reason I’m not upgrading to the O3 Air unit until the legends at WTFFPV actually get round to hacking the O3 I’m sure it’s on the cards :+1:t2:

Well the O3 does work fine with BF! OK can’t get the custom font’s but it does work with their font! If they allowed us to upload our own fonts (specifically for iNav), then I’d be more than happy! Until then will stick with one O3 UNit!
