Subzero Sunrise over Guildford, Surrey

First edit of 2025, had a month or so now with DV so fairly happy with what’s what - this is my first sunrise take but I have more planned. It was not as clear as I had hoped, but it was just clear enough to get the first rays. I had some issues with my fingers freezing at times making it tricky to get the shots I wanted, but that’s just part of being cold I guess!

Nice Video, thanks for sharing

Wow - that response was within 30 seconds - you must have watched it in FFWD mode!!! Thanks though…

That is beautiful! Wow, you sure have an eye for aerial photography

That clip brings a WHOLE new meaning to “frozen in time”…

Thanks, but I feel your words are too kind. I have learnt some pretty hard lessons over the last month or so, mainly with videos like these not to make them too long, as once your in the air, its all the same pretty much, and you need to introduce different angles or movements to maintain interest. This was longer than I anticipated in the end, I actually cut a lot down to try and not make it boring. Most of those I show my work to lose interest quickly but then it is like most things, people either appreciate stuff or they don’t.

This was simple flying, and all made smooth in the edit. I am learning the edit is where it all happens really. You can film anything good or poor, and polish it up in an edit. But thanks, it was my first venture out at dawn and at least I came away with something.

Don’t forget that some people would happily sit for hours and watch the birds, or watch the clouds… Or watch the earth from a completely different view they didn’t otherwise have access to. Some even go to bed with the sound of aircraft cabin sounds as it helps them sleep.

Don’t underestimate your photography… You’re bringing wings to those who can’t fly and see things from your perspective.

Well those are lovely words and yes, that is true enough I guess. I watch a lot of the videos on here with interest and often gain inspiration.

For me the magic is in the final edit, setting the mood for the video by selecting the order of clips, then trying to ensure the clip transitions suit the feel of the whole piece. Then finally I look at the length and decide on music. Thats the single most important part for me and will totally make or break a short film.

Bravo for actually getting early enough and staying out for it…

yes i know what freezing fingers is like… directly related to staying power - or not
