Swapping Phones DJI Apps

I have a new phone arriving today and was wondering what I need to do to swap it over for use with DJI Fly App? Do I just install the Fly App and sign in? Or is there any information/data I need to transfer over for it to work properly?

Thats what I did on iPhone

Thanks Chris Thats what I’m thinking too but not having my drone long and this being the first time I’m swapping phones I’m not 100% sure :+1:t2:

If you want to keep a complete history of the .txt log files (for uploading to AirData, or whatever, at a later date), remember to copy these off your outgoing phone.

I have every file from the last 4 years all backed up in duplicate.

Great info thanks Dave :+1:t2: Is there any other data stored on the phone thats worth transferring over?

I actually copy everything from the Go4 folder into one mahoosive, merged, folder on my laptop … even though I’ve no idea what a load of it’s for.

So far it’s only been those .txt logs that I’ve subsequently needed.

So if I copy those .txt files onto the new phone I will have all my flight history back on the fly app in my new phone? I think I will do the same and copy the whole folder onto my laptop just incase :+1:t2:

For the FlyApp logs (or Go4, for anyone else reading this) - if you have them synced with DJI then they will appear on the new phone when you sync.

The .txt files are only if you need them for other things … like AirData.

My Drone-Phone is permanently off line, and I never sync the app … so for me they are more important. But, if you want to use AirData at some point, then you’ll need them.

Ah ok I’m not sure if they are synced with DJI but I already use AirData so they are definitely on there but I have the free account which only saves 100 flights before starting to delete the oldest records. What kind of things are you likely to need historical flight data for out of curiosity?

I only have a free Airdata (well, six … one free one on each of six different email addresses. :smiling_imp:), so one day I may spend some money with them and start afresh with all of them … so that I don’t have to manually add up totaly flight time / distance / etc.

Just occasionally, I’ve wanted to look back at location data (having spent 3 months touring Italy), and height/distance/speed sometimes.

Once it’s archived on AirData, and if you don’t have the .txt, you lose that info for ever. There are computer progs that can read the txt files if needed, too.

Hmmm interesting  so is there an amount/time limit on records synced to DJI servers? If I was to get a paid AirData account at a later date could I sync up historical data then or just new data?

The synced data in the apps isn’t in the same .txt file format. It’s a far more summary version, that won’t upload to AirData.

And just in case anyone is curious in future and has searched this…

It also works between iOS and Android. Just sign in and away you go

Thanks Lee appreciate it :+1:t2:

Again - in case anyone searches - you can also be using more than one device concurrently, and syncing the Go4/Fly apps will show the same complete history on all devices.

Thats fantastic thanks for all the help guys! :+1:t2:

OK so I’m copying the whole folder over now. I will sync with DJI servers before I swap over and see how that goes. Cheers Dave appreciate it :+1:

As I say - probably overkill, but that’s how “Backup” should be approached if one’s not totally sure what some of the stuff may one day be useful for.

It’s also why I have too many backup drives (with duplicate, triplicates, and worse) that are chocker-block, need rationalising, but that’s a long tedious job that gets started (often) and never reaches a tidy conclusion.

Western Digital do send me Christmas cards, though. LOL!

Haha thats an expensive Christmas card :joy:
