Good to know :+1:t2:

But… :see_no_evil:

You won’t know the number of the SIM until you’ve got it (in America).

They require you to keep this sim in your phone at all times while using your drone?

Is a pain that I can’t pre register but it will only take 5 mins whilst there. Then I’m guessing just stick it in whilst flying (if i can be bothered) not sure I’ll really need it in. Unless they call me randomly for a chat they won’t have my phone number unless they find my drone and link it to my OP-ID

Question to FAA:
do I just use my sim whilst flying or all the time?

I must say, The FAA are on point with Q&A’s probably have been waiting 2 weeks for the CAA.

WTF?

How do they think that is possible?

I was going to offer the loan of a number to him.

With respect I can’t really put that out publicly, as I do sometimes use it.

Sorry

Could you get a US style voip number that just forwards to your uk sim? Depends how quick the registration might take once you’re there but I understand the desire to get everything set up in advance

Not sure if it is mentioned in this thread, but I use the apps Aloft and B4UFLY in the USA.

B4UFLY is very useful.

With the DJI Mini 2, as its under 250g, i don’t have to register it, right?

Just got back, and got a local sim for registration. Never got called once, during the 4 weeks I was there.

Thanks for all the advice in the post, was very useful before travelling there.

So i wanted to take my drone to USA on holiday. Ive looked into it and it seems to indicate that you need to complete all these steps.
https://www.faa.gov/uas/commercial_operators/become_a_drone_pilot

Now im okay with most but step 5 seems to want you to attend a course. Surely to use a drone under 250g you don’t have to go through all this.

Anyone else taken a drone to USA, am I misunderstanding something.

Moved your post to the appropriate thread - so that all related information can be kept in one place. :+1:

This is for Part 107 - if you are flying commercially including making money on youtube and similar.

For recreational you just need to pass your TRUST test

Then if over 250g or using heavier batteries on a Min 3 Pro for example, you will need to register the drone for $5 and display the number on the drone.

Hi, I am a drone newbie and really thankful that there are threads like this. I am going to california this september and definitely bringing my mini 3 with me. I already took the test and got my certification for recreational flying. I do have a question about CBO this is not clear with me. While I am taking the course it says that if authorities asked you then you should provide the certification and the CBO from which you are currently joining which is I do not have any idea how to join.

Many thanks in advance for those who can answer my question

Might be useful. Not sure the vast majority actually join one of them.

Hi, thanks for sharing the video though not seeing the importance of it if you are going just for holiday. But knowing the different organisations might be handy.
