Tamworth Castle - Added to Castles and Fortifications in Tamworth, West Midlands

I have just added this to the map of places to fly your drone at Drone Scene:

Tamworth Castle is an Anglo Saxon Castle built sometime in the 800ad

You could I guess take off from the Tamworth Castle grounds but I think your too close to be able to do things like an orbit of the castle. The grounds as far as I can tell are council owned / maintained and will have people around them. I found a short walk across the river Anker and down onto the land where the military pill box is was a way better vantage point to be able to do an orbit of the castle and maintain great VLOS of the Air 3s.

Parking can be had at two locations - both are free on Sunday's / Bank / Public holidays are payment via contactless coins and app ( Payby Phone)

The originator declared that this location was not inside a Flight Restriction Zone at the time of being flown on 04/05/2026. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location. Landowner permission may be required before taking off.

It surprised me that this is the first proper Castle entry, especially as there is a whole load of green space to fly from (when it’s dry).

I have been to the Snowdome bar recently, and so am able to recognise a lot of this area. It is a great central spot for the pano to be taken from.

Can you get between the bowling alley and snowdome via an underpass, or is there a pedestrian crossing?
I’m thinking ahead for the next snowdome visit…

Will DM you

I’ve flown here too @LE60LAD  Strange that, I flew here 3 years ago but the pin was already added by @Firstadekit? I always park at the Ventura Shopping Centre as it’s free and walk under bridges through the park. Then Nandos for lunch!!

Not sure what happened to my entry, I think I entered it under LadyBridge inc Tamworth Castle. Anyway, not precious about any of that stuff and good to see it back on the map.

I did think it was odd that it was not listed as I did think you or Colin had flown here before

The snowdome ones are just as bad if not worse - and it happens so quickly too - been to the snowdome - parked up had a meal and then had to roll my trousers up and take my shoes off to wade to my car haha - twice that has happened to me.
