Tattenhall Marina is an ideal place to test out your skills flying over water. 9 miles from Chester, and just down the road from Beeston Castle.
Carpark is right next to the moorings and they have a great cafe if you feel peckish.
The originator declared that this location was not inside a Flight Restriction Zone at the time of being flown on 17/10/2024. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location.
New to drone flying and came across this site. So my first place to fly my mini 4 pro was here. Purely for the beauty of the place and the fact that it’s conveniently only 9 miles from my house in Nantwich. A great place to fly over the water and the boats. I’d recommend it, but you need a nice day, I went at about 3pm on Jan 10th, the sun was on its way out already, and I managed to capture a little bit of footage.
What makes you think that, Joshua? I openly filmed there without seeking permission, and without an issue. I do have friends who have a boat there, and have never seen any indication that filming was against their policy during my visits.
Aaah, that old chestnut! It’s up to you, I guess, but you’ll have a hard job convincing the C&RT to grant you permission to fly without crossing their sticky palms with a lot of silver, buddy.
The towpath is open to the public, and I see many dog walkers passing through while I’ve been enjoying a glass or two of vino on our friends’ narrowboat. The splendid cafe there also serves non-residential customers. I’d fly there anytime, as long as you don’t linger over anywhere in particular and are respectful. The worst that can happen is they ask you to leave the area, but as the towpath is open to the public, you don’t necessarily have to comply, but, full disclosure, I would.
Do it after your 1st bit of filming though! I took off (you can see me in my video) by the maintenance bay, but just a bit further on there’s a bridge, you can take off from the otherside if you feel exposed.
I’m just at the maintenance Bay at the moment in the car park and sat on a bench but I’m absolutely nervous as anything to take off. I noticed there are people living in some of these boats so yeah, I might just takeoff from the bridge.. I found the bridge feels so much better here. Not as hot or in direct sunlight.
Yeah gonna set up and take off like you said just do Iv found a spot by the bridge i feel less exposed. I need lessons “how not to be nervous when flying”

Your reassurance and guidance in Tattenhall Marina yesterday it wasn’t much appreciated without your help. I would’ve travelled one hour and a half there drove around a little bit and then an hour and a half back home.
With all your help, I actually stayed I was there for three hours, undecidedas to whether I should fly changing positions looking around am I gonna get bollocked, I’m gonna get shouted out and then I was advised to walk a little bit further under the bridge which is what I did and I felt easy to takeoff from there okay? I got 10 minutes of footage but I also got the chance to travel 5 miles down the road to PECKFORTON CASTLE which was super brilliant I didn’t do any flying cause I was a bit nervous as much as I wanted to cause I love castles. I just love visiting castles but I managed to get in and take a little walk around and view the history. see the history feel it have a little glass of pop lol just a small glass of pop got to meet some new people some people I would never have met if I didn’t travel to the marina so for me it was a win-win all Round I’m a lucky lad I travel in an electric car so for the whole day in fuel it cost me £1.50 I had a coffee in the boathouse and a slice of cake at the marina, I got chatting to a few people who was resting in the cafe. also bringing in their boat to dock for the weekend I felt like they it was a win-win and from the help of you guys it was a double win-win so yeah, I look forward to my next adventure out.

If they can do it, so can you, buddy. I’ve flown Peckforton Castle and a few others around there, and in Chester, without any issues, and all in Drone Scene.
There have been times when I’ve been approached by National Trust Rangers and Karens and Kens and have sent them packing! Learn the code, rehearse your polite retort to those that challenge you, and be on your way, if they have a point! Easy.
Sign up for a GA group meet and talk with others. It will give you masses of confidence, and you will learn new stuff. I always do at our meets. The GA Big Meet is the best of them, and I guarantee you’ll enjoy it… I’ll be there!!
