The River Tees has two iconic bridges, both sadly out of use but there is hope that the transporter bridge will be bought back into service. It’s now been out of use since 2019.

The transporter is only one of two in the UK the other being in Newport, Wales. Vehicles are taken across the river on a suspended gondola.

The Newport Bridge is no permanently down but was the first of its kind lift bridge.
