Had to get out at least once more this year and finally managed it today. Despite the “misty” weather warning which I was hoping for and would have made more of an atmospheric result I got dull and grey!
Anyway, this is my local “three cliffs bay” and not the more famous one down the Gower. Otherwise known as Dunraven Cliffs and Beach.
Given the right tide conditions it is entirely feasible to walk this beach from Southerndown to Wick lighthouse or vice-versa, and then return via part of the Wales Coastal Walk. There are caves, waterfalls, and the rocks are so interesting.
Nothing special, just was out with the Air3S in between the HORRIBLE weather, to get a bit of flying time and try some things.
Anyhow, I went up to a place which I’ve been many a time before over nearly 50 yrs. The Prince William pub, Dalton, only half a mile away from the golfy we have meets at.
A knew it had closed in 2020, I went up for a mooch in 2022 with the Air 2S, it was bad then…i’ts even worse now, massive shame. Me mates dad used to run it around the time we were in High School , got some good memories. Part of it dates back to 1640.
Apparently there’s plans for it being used for redevelopment and another house planted where the beer garden is Suppose if it’s saved then that’s the only thing that matters.
@Leylo1971 my mate ran his pub for 25yrs after buying it off his parents and was fairly recently [>5yrs] purchased to make way for HS2. Since then nothing has happened and HS2 is now not going that far!
I last saw it in July this year looking very much like your photos! But nice for him, he retired on a very tidy sum!
Yeah Steve it does mate, same really goes for the Beacon inn 50yrds down the road. The Prince Willy would have probably been the last place I would av seen closed. Used to do decent food and the beer garden was great. A think the isolated spot it’s in went right against it in the not so great weather what we have.
The biggest example of neglect is the college half a mile away, there’s been plans upon plans for that place, an as the years go on the cost of redevelopment explodes.
Hoping the Prince Willy gets its make over as an house, it’ll follow The Old Dog, The Owl and the Nunnery as new dwellings for the well off.
Go have a look first person, although there’s a large fence now, it only surrounds the buildings itself. You can still walk around the cemetery, rugby fields, vegetable lot and 9 holler. The surrounding bits and pieces have stonework strewn about, apparently left while the construction took part …its like the land that time forgot…even more so 10 years ago when no 4x4 dickheads were about. Heards of wild dear used to live there, me and the dogs used to track em…thats until it became a 4x4 playground.
Having a close up view is something different, very erie…you can almost hear the peacocks that used to roam free still calling…and don’t mention them levitating ghostly nuns that use to hover about
Last ship of the year and my only one today. A lot of departures were cancelled because of the wind. 15-20mph winds and up to 50mph gusts in places. Air3s still rock steady in normal mode with sport mode in reserve.
Prior to this, I tried flying out to a ship all lit up as I thought it maybe 500 or so metres out. When I got to 1.7km out I began to wonder if I’d even get there and gave up. But this is the closest I got and surely should get me the night flyer badge as it was a whole hour before sunrise!
After this, I shot down the road to one of my favourite local castles in hopes of catching the full river [with submerged stepping stones]. This shot shows the usual angle taken down river showing the mist in the distance and frost on the ground:
