Nice shot John
Cheers Mick
A few pictures taken as the sun set last night on the Standing with Giants installation at Wellington Square in Ayr - 100 life-sized silhouettes of serving military personnel to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
The peace was somewhat disturbed by the screaming from ‘Streetrave’, the last night of the nearby Pavillion Festival.
Just a shame there wasn’t a strong sun to help cast shadows from those. Lovely pics though.
Yep, would’ve been nice. Mind you, they’re there until the 10th so there’s hope yet.
Definitely for regrowth and managed burning. It’s also done to encourage more diverse plant growth.
Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station.
Bit gusty and my first time flying here so this was as good as it got for me as I didn’t hang around too long
Will be back again when I am not so frozen from swimming
Love the erosion textures in the rock in the last one.
An early memory of mine is a day out to visit that castle. My big sister (probably about 9 or 10 years old then) got too close to the cliff and fell… my dad jumped forwards and caught her by her pony tail. She was absolutely furious with indignation!
Nearly five decades later and it still comes up at family gatherings.
Far stronger images
I give only the slightest of nudges. Great work, those are fantastic images.
That’s so good I’m wondering if these are real people or not ..
That sun angle, though, another 15 minutes, ..ish, and it wouldn’t have been in line with the path.
My wife had the same comment about the angle of the sun… without the winky emoji
Frustratingly (in hindsight) if you look at the shadow from the war memorial (in the centre) on the first two photos, one is to the the left, the other to the right. I was there when it was dead centre, but I missed it because I was chatting to a member of the local photography club who spotted the drone and came over to say hello.
It has been ‘suggested’ (constructively, of course) to me at this end that I should to go back for a third time.
Actually, despite commenting on the angle, there’s a possibility that perfectly aligned may not look as good as a bigger angle.. 20° or more.
Difficult to move the sun into the optimum position, though.
There are apps that tell you when it would be in a certain position, shadow lengths, etc .. depending on how long the installation is on display, of course.
Really like the first photo in particular! Whereabouts was it?
