My wife and I spent a few days in Newcastle this week then came home via the A69 so we could take a walk along Hadrian’s Wall to Sycamore Gap.

I normally go into Manchester city centre on Christmas day to get some drone shots when it’s relatively quiet. I was too poorly for that this year, so today was the first day I felt up for it, even though it was obviously quite a bit busier.
The circular stepped feature is Jeremy Deller’s Peterloo Memorial, close to the site of the 1819 massacre. The steps are labelled with the towns the Peterloo protesters came from, and the names of those who were killed.
Is it a different time on all 4 faces?
That’s how long it took for him to fly between them. ![]()

That would be hilarious! The other two faces were in the shade, so I didn’t bother flying round to check :-).
PS: I love how they insisted on including the little (R) symbol on the hotel logo even though this is way up in the air and absolutely nobody can see it other than the occasional drone pilot
.
Because I was lucky enough to have one of my images selected for the ‘advent calendar’ I decided to take a detour on my way home from the hospital.
So, a year to the day that the selected image was taken I revisited one of my favourite places to photograph. This one is not as frosty and sadly the sun was dropping behind the cliffs rather than straight down the river, but you can’t have everything:
St Peter’s Church - Burton On Trent
Ferry Bridge, Burton Upon Trent
Both photos direct from the drone - DJI Air 3s
Man this thing impresses me every time I take off.
Don’t see many people playing.![]()
Keep losing that little white ball
I recognised the first photo, and seeing you are out enjoying your new drone, I just knew there would be a picture of Ferry Bridge to follow! ![]()
Well done, you’re getting some great photos from it already.

Ian I blame you mate haha - I do love that bridge not just because its my namesake too haha - did you know further up the river ( Birmingham direction ) there is a viaduct too - you can see it in the distance of this photo - need to take a little trip to it.
Had someone pass me on the bridge a few times and hoot and wave - no idea - maybe a fellow droner ?
Zoomed in, that brick arch viaduct definitely looks worth a visit. Good call. ![]()
Trip out today to catch the Avanti NW crossing the Ribblehead Viaduct due to major works on the main line.
WOW - awesome colours - great photos
Keyhaven River and Marshes on The Solent, the Isle of Wight in the background in some shots, Hurst Castle and Spit in some. Panos merged manually in LrC. From 30 November. Mavic 4 Pro.
Flown around there many a time. This time of year is always good to walk out to the lighthouse and fly from there. Hardly anyone around.
I was recovering after a major operation at my Sister’s at the end of November, so staggering along the shingle bank would have been a bit beyond me then, good now. I enjoyed just being able to walk out the end of her garden into the fields for this flight though!
