So sad. I used to go fishing there. It’s right next to the venue for one of the UK’s biggest boat shows.
It wasn’t the best time of day to get decent light in this shot, but it shows the route of the railway that used to run over Stanemore in eastern Cumbria. It was built mainly for goods traffic but also carried passengers. It was open for a hundred years until closure in 1962.
Thats a cracker - shows what you wanted just right.
I love seeing the old railway lines. Soon as I get a decent day Im going on a 10 mile walk along whats left of a similar line that carried slate from the quarry up in Snowdonia to the shoreline in the 17&1800’s. If half as good as this I will be well chuffed.
@kvetner - in the middle one above of the Runcorn Bridge, i think I can spot them fancy apartments " The Deck" - I’m hearing the cladding is the same as Grenfell and some units that cost 140K now go for £36000 cos of the costs involved in replacing/Insurance that has gone up 600%. They could be well worth a fly past mate - a derelict multi-million white elephant.
I was frequently fishing off that pier in the late 50s.
Stunning Shots mate, were did you fly from?
In isolation at home, so took the opportunity to go out with my young son and have a practice flight in the blowy conditions this afternoon. Managed to get a few nice shots. This is the little 65 acre country park that is on my doorstep so have a ready made little airfield to fly circuits and practice techniques.
I was flying figure 8’s and squares and practising putting the drone above objects. Also trying out the intelligent flight modes and seeing how they coped in the wind at various altitudes. All good fun and better than moping around watching the doom and gloom on the news!
Nice shot’s
Very nice pic’s.
When I first looked at these photos taken today, they both showed “contrasts”. The first one, looking along the A66 towards Blencathra, shows the contrast between the bright green enclosed pastures and the duller green open fells beyond. I would have cropped it quite heavily but then I also noticed the Roman camp in the foreground.
The second one shows the contrast between the old lane hugging the contours and the motorway which ignores them completely. This is Junction 37 on the M6 with the Lambrigg Wind Farm clearly visible.
Amen to that.
Been past that junction many times, never really had the time to see the natural beauty of the area.
Thanks for posting the Picture really nice.
This lump of rock is in the Menai Straits, Anglesey. Monks lived there centuries ago, hence the medieval fish-wier ( will show it better via a vid ) now a millionaire lives on it. Only way to shore is by boat. This is low tide, at high tide the water is right up so only the house and fish smokery is out of the water. High peak in the background is Snowdon. Did a low tide & high tide flight a couple of days ago.
Just put a short vid up in the video section if anyone wants to see this island in context
High tide was unusually high when I was there on 12 March - looked like the house was flooded!
It does flood on rare occasions - the guy has spend a bucketload on keeping it dry & safe but not always 100% successfully. Thing is, its a clever design based on the original - so even on a flood the wall does indeed protect it and its elevated inside by 10 feet so the water sluices under the rooms. Its up for sale at present - after 25 years there he’s had enough I guess. If a flag aint flying he’s not at home so its OK to fly right above - just need a calm day.
Hi Bri
Hope your keeping well under the current circumstances. Would yoj mind if I download one of your shots of Stanlow to use as a canvas. I went to Helsby last night to take a shot with my camera but Stanlow was to far away and I didnt have my drone with me.
