Today, Wednesday August 17th, 2022 is the Grey Arrows Drone Club’s fifth birthday!

Happy Birthday to Us!

You are all either watching or participating in the Birthday Challenge and Treasure Hunt where finding 24 items and their associated bonuses can gain you a maximum of 95 points.

And points mean prizes! (and headaches for the scorers if they have to work out percentages). Which is why we are introducing a 25th subject, worth a total of five points, to bring the maximum possible score up to 100 shiny GADC points!

What better way to celebrate a Birthday than with craftsmanship, cards, candles and cakes? The craft comes with you creating a card for GADC from scratch and decorating a home-made or store bought cake.

The card must be a hand-made by you and wishing GADC a Happy Birthday. Any media may be used including crayon, finger paints, collage, pasta, decoupage, found objects, sticky-backed plastic and glitter. (Get a responsible adult to help you with scissors and glue)

Who likes cake?

Your cake can be baked by yourself or bought from a shop for you to decorate. It must prominently feature the initials GADC or the words Grey Arrows Drone Club as well as any other decoration you see fit. It must also have five birthday candles on it, capable of being lit.

And now you have crafted these two unique items - what next?

For a total of five points:

25. Create a unique GADC Birthday Card from scratch and post the photo

  • Post a photo of the card suspended from a drone
  • Decorate a cake - with GADC written on it - and add 5 birthday candles (photo)
  • Fly your drone to blow out all the candles at once (video)

The above four items may be photographed by any camera. Videos must be 30 seconds or less.

  • Post a photo or video taken by drone of an organised public celebration

Have fun and be your creative best! :sunglasses:

Green Bridge, Chatelherault Country Park, Hamilton - Mini 3 Pro - taken 16/08/2022 @ 17:13
I claim 3 points please? Sadly no wheeled vehicles, in fact nothing crossed the bridge in the 30mins I was there despite being a popular walking/cycling route :slightly_frowning_face:

5 points awarded :+1:t2:

@Challenges_Committee does a Burn count as a river? Up here it can be used to describe a small river?

Hi John unfortunately we are unable to accept this ‘A wooden bridge’ entry as the supports at each end and in the middle are stone and these form a large part of the structure of the bridge. The good news is you are free to submit another entry for the ‘A wooden bridge’ category.

No worries, back to the drawing board :slightly_frowning_face:

I wondered about that too, problem is many of them aren’t marked on Google maps.

Thanks for the query Darren. Having looked at definitions from many sources the general consensus is that a ‘burn’ is a stream or brook but not a river, so this would not be accepted

Now see what you’ve done @DroneGeek, you’ve gone and given them an idea (unless, as I suspect, that was their cunning plan all along)

think I might have to forget about the bridges, been on google all morning and can’t find a wooden bridge, over a river, that doesn’t have any metal or concrete atached. Well I can, but they’re too far to drive for a one off trip

I can see it now, a drone and card flaming in the sky, having been set alight by the cake candles !!

To avoid needless immolation of the aircraft you are advised to carefully read the requirements again …
