The Great Big GADC 5th Birthday and Treasure Hunt Challenge!

Oh, definitely a boozer, preferably with a fight spilling out into the back garden
and the local scrotes hot-wiring mopeds in the car park …

Many pubs are also restaurants, they have to be in order to survive. If you are unsure look up the website and, if it says pub then you are good to go. If you think we will need convincing, include the link in your post

My next one…

  1. An isolated tower (NOT a wind turbine tower)
    • No other structure or buildings within 150m.
    • Drone Scene entry

@group-challenges

Could you post the Drone Scene link with your entry please. Andy?

Also, as a general note for all contributors a photograph of an isolated tower with no buildings within 150 metres would illustrate the subject better if taken to show that bare 150 metres

We are not after beautiful pictures. We do like clear content. It is content, not composition that will help you win - but, if you can combine both, please do so

Quick question about the “isolated tower” subject.

Does the definition of “isolated tower” mean it’s the only tower/tall building in the area? Even if we’re not going for the no buildings in 150m bonus point if it has say 2 storey buildings around it would that count?

Andy, was this once a bombing range? The arrow close to the tower in your Drone Scene picture is similar to the ones found in the New Forest where they tested, among others, the Grand Slam bomb pn a specially constructed submarine pen - some 20 miles from the sea

No problem…

Isolated means no buildings within a 150 metre radius for full bonus.

From what I can find doing a bit of research it was used as a part of the practice bombing range. Probably linked to RAF West Freugh which while no longer in service still runs ordinance training in to Luce bay.

Thank you. I’d a few candidates lined up but most of them are marketed more for the restaurant than the pub. Sadly, traditional old pubs are getting harder to find

Thanks. Down here Grockle Boxes are mobile homes.

Far simpler then so thank you.

We would tend to call static caravans as trailers.

To be honest I hadn’t looked up Wikipedia rookie mistake

Next year should have more subjects that mean different things in different regions! :joy:

What do you call a narrow enclosed pathway between properties, often a short cut?

An alleyway?

A cut-through?

A snicket?

A ginnel?

And don’t get us started on bread roll / bap / barm cake …

Although my adopted home town has this bollocks

Has local author Mark W. Jones written anything worthwhile instead of sitting around dreaming up stupid words?

Last seen walking up and down the Shambles spouting Harry Potter shite to the tourists.

Just popped off an email to an airport to request permission to fly around a church in an FRZ. :+1:

Please can the board clarify on the following:

5 - A Clock Tower, Bonus Ten O’Clock Being 22:00, are you wanting a clock tower with a digital display?
8 - A landscape not in the county I live in. I live in Leeds, do I just need to leave West Yorkshire or do I need to leave Yorkshire all together?
16 - An Isolated Tower. Must this be a tower in a traditional sense where it appears to be a structure or can large aerials also be classed as towers?
18 - A waterside pub - As long as it is next to the water and the road is on the other side it counts right?

Thank you in advance, I don’t think these questions are too daft.

Hi Dakin, glad you have joined us, fresh from your triumph in the RTF competition!

Clock tower:

You get a point for a clock tower at any time of day.
One bonus point if the clock is indicating 10 o’clock (analog or digital clock face)
10 o’ clock can be day or nighttime
So, if the hands show 10 o’clock and it is obviously night (or the digits show 22:00) there is a further bonus.
And if you can place the site on the Drone Scene map (see rules for conditions) you will get a further bonus.

We are using the current definition of county so you will have to venture outside the boundaries of West Yorkshire. Contrary to local belief, life does exist outside of God’s own County …

We are looking for structures that are classed as towers. As with all things, if you can convince us with proof from a reputable source that something is called a tower we will accept.

The acid test is that, if you showed the picture to a reasonable person down the pub - or in the park - what would;d they call the object you photographed? If it matches the subject being asked for then you are probably ok. Remember though that radio masts, even if called towers, often have buildings close to their base.

A waterside pub is one that has at least one of it’s boundaries directly adjacent to a body of water - canal, river, lake, sea ,

The questions aren’t daft. You have come late to the party. We are not usually this helpful!
