Hopefully no entries at 22:59 this year
The eventuality has been discussed and a plan formulated …
Humble apologies in advance
You could always hold your last two entries back until even later …
1. An Illuminated Building (Must be illuminated from an external source)
- Bonus point if the building is illuminated all around (360 degrees) and not just at the front.
- Bonus point if the illumination colour matches a capital-increasing inquisitor, once a trans-Atlantic ferry pilot.

Not a 360° illumination, but maybe the correct colour
Claim: 2 points please
Please be gentle if I have still misunderstood this category
One point for the illuminated building, it is lit by external lights.
As for the colour - maybe yes. maybe no - it will be revealed once the Challenge ends

Dozer AND Excavator AND Dump trucks, Rainham Essex
21 Aug 2023 DJI Mavic Air 2
I claim 1 point please
Unfortunately a weak finish from me. Just the one point from my last entry … missed out on a boat on a trailer completely (and the over 120m flight was not going to happen).
But this has been a fantastic challenge and has got me to do so many new things as a novice flyer. Thanks again to our illustrious Challenge Committee and anyone else involved in organising this.
6. A Drone in Flight
- Bonus point if has six or more motors.
- Bonus point if it’s not DJI.
- Bonus if its colour matches King Charles’ mistress’s wares.
DJI Mini 3 Pro Saturday 9/9/23
No bonuses alas, so just the 1 point, please.
Just the one for the dump trucks, Andrew. Thanks for your contributions to this year’s Cha;;enge, hope you enjoyed it!
12. This may be your Mission Impossible - a railway track passing under a road bridge
Taken on the 7th Sept close to Junction 16 on the M4 ( Swindon ) with a DJI Mini 2.
You can just see the nose of the train exiting the bridge.
- 3 bonus points if a train is passing underneath the road bridge (not approaching or leaving) and there is a full-size articulated lorry (tractor unit and 40-foot or longer trailer) completely on the bridge. - i.e.within the confines of the bridge walls
- Bonus point if the cab colour matches Christie’s ornamentation of the aged Quercus.
Claiming 1 point for the task, 3 bonus points for the lorry on the bridge with a train passing underneath and whilst we’re pretty sure the colour’s wrong, claiming the cryptic colour bonus when it’s released just in case
Total 5 ( when colours are release ).
This one was a personal challenge for me, as I got the first lorry on the bridge with the train back on the 31st July but the colour was wrong. I’ve been back a few times now and got almost every other colour except for the one we think it is , still silver lining … I can now forget the departure times for trains leaving Swindon!
Thank you, I have!
(all the way up to Cliffgate but I’m trying to move on and recover and rebuild my life. Sniff.)
I thought you’d done a busy last couple of days @BadManners , but it seems you were holding onto these - presumable hoping for something better to come along
Thanks for your compliments, Adrian. We are glad that you have had the opportunity to extend your skills, that’s the main reason for Challenge. To a lesser extent RTF will do that though it is about creating the best picture you can rather more than trying to find implausible objects!
And one point to top up your score!
I know how you feel. It’s not exactly a common colour! (Though I’ve seen quite a few since I submitted my entry )
- A Flight - more than 120m above ground level - permissions must be obtained and shown in your posting - 3 points
St. Johns Beacon Liverpool taken 02.09.2023 2009 hrs DJI Mini3 Pro The Beacon is 138 metres in height
Letter From St. Johns Beacon giving permission
screen shot of flight showing height above 120 metres(height displayed 126.7 metres 415.7 feet
Claim 3 Points
Hopefully I have interpreted the flight above 120 metres correctly?? Give it a go anyway. Photograph was supplied to the tower free of charge as they now have an up to date image of tower, roof area
Yes I had some images in the bank. My early full points ones were rarely the first image shot. Steam train took weeks, it was the fourth place I visited, then a whole morning figuring out the shunting patterns. The loco I posted, I had good photos before it did a whole 2 hour return journey to its destination and only then got a good image with the diesel loco.
I’m back at work so evenings and weekends only for challenge work. Was going to go to a tractor fair today for two tractors and cross fingers for the two colours I wanted. But I’ve stayed local and had six recreational fights, just post what I had left in the back.
And finally
13. A Vessel on water with two or more masts
Taken today ( 9th Sept ), off Calshot, Hampshire with a DJI Mini2
- Bonus point for towing a dinghy
Bonus point for raised sails.
Just claiming the one bonus point, I’ve got several pictures of these 2 mast sail boats over the period of the challenge (all towing a dinghy) but for some reason, they only ever have one sail raised.
This is my last entry. I totally echo Adrians @AdrianR comments above, many thanks to the challenge committee @Challenges_Committee and everyone else involved. I haven’t had so much fun with 4 propellers and a remote control in a long time.
Well done to everyone who’s been playing along, It certainly has been a challenge and I’ve learned so much. 5 permission requests from NATS and RAF Odiham, one of the joys of living in several FRZs - I never knew it was so easy to obtain. Loved being part of this. Thanks again.
