The Great Big GADC 7th Birthday Challenge and Treasure Hunt!

Another one I took yesterday morning.

Now do I have enough containers with logos in the background? The pub has shut down, so nobody outside that and the cranes are not tower cranes. I have a red car on the drive, but no semi-detached. So best claim for the A35 bridge

4. A bridge
One bonus point for each item shown underneath the bridge in your picture:

  • Road - a lane or more in opposite directions :white_check_mark:
  • Railway - standard gauge :white_check_mark:
  • River - marked as such on Google Maps or Ordnance Survey (proof required) :white_check_mark:

This bleary-eared judge, who has a passing knowledge of the A35 having travelled along it many times, was confused by your “River Tess”. Had a less hungover colleague not arrived to dissuade me I would have docked you several points for making me have to think at such an unearthly time of the day.

So, grudgingly, 4 points

But many thanks and my sincere apologies for making you think.

Thanks @Challenges_Committee for another interesting set of challenges. We’re looking forward to an active few weeks.

Could I check on item 1 - the pub. Does the “associated with a notable person” include a famous person having visited for a meal, or does it need a longer period of association?

Thanks.

It needs rather more than a single visit by someone.

For instance there are probably hundreds of pubs where Oliver Reed once had a pint

But these are the ones we would consider:

Reed was a pub man until he died. In, umm, a pub, where he had been “drinking on the floor”. (It’s now known as ***** **** Pub.) He was a regular at ****** *****Hotel in ******, **** and the Duke of ******** in ******, and created a crawl of the eight pubs around ******** *****.

And we would accept them if Ollie’s connection was documented somewhere and that documentation could be posted as part of your entry

Another question about item 1 - if the pub is part of a larger complex which is Grade II listed, would that count for a bonus point ?

Do you have a specific example in mind?

If so, as with all queries that might “give succour to the enemy” you can contact us privately at @Challenges_Committee

Documentation or a link in your entry is always good,

Question answered in private message.

All are welcome to contact us if you don’t wish to post your question publicly.

I guess any pub named the Queen Victoria ought to count

Or would it need to be where she lived?

Sooooo
Let me get this right,
I have a pub, a famous persons regular, it’s in a news thread, the pub is also in a wiki link, is this a goer ? ( or what’s meant in the rules )
Also grade two listed

If you can photograph this pub from the air with a drone so that any reasonable person can say “That looks like a drone photo”; if you can supply some form of proof that the pub is listed* and that it is associated with a famous person then you, Mr. Kirky. will win the star prize (if available, terms and conditions apply)

Day Two of the Grey Arrows Drone Club Seventh Birthday Challenge and Treasure Hunt. It’s been fairly quiet for entries today - we think most people will still be planning their campaigns.

Conversely, the ever-cheery help centre staff have been busy answering your questions throughout the day with their customary concise and clear instruction, merry banter and bonhomie.
