The Hyperlapse Challenge #3 - 2025 - Coastlines - Winners Announced

You are invited to create a hyperlapse using a drone at least 15 seconds long on the subject of as voted,

The Challenge will run from 11th May 00:01 to 21:00 on the 7th of June 21.00 hours. Your hyperlapse must be taken within that period. Proof may be required in case of dispute

The challenge will run for 28 days and is open to all GADC members. Once closed a poll open to all will determine the ’ first, second & third place winners ‘.

What is a Hyperlapse?

A hyperlapse video is a time-lapse video that uses a moving camera to create a sense of speed and movement. It’s a creative and visually striking technique that combines a series of still images into an accelerated video sequence.

How is a hyperlapse video created?

1. The camera captures a series of still images at different intervals.
2. The camera moves between each photo.
3. The images are combined to create a seamless, accelerated video sequence.

4. Feel free to add tilt shift to your Hyperlapse if you want to be more creative ! ( But Not Mandatory )

How is a hyperlapse video different from a time-lapse video?

A hyperlapse video uses different angles to create a sense of movement and speed.
A time-lapse video is traditionally shot on a tripod or on a motion control slider, so the camera stays in almost exactly the same spot.

You can also create a hyperlapse in most video editors using footage shot at normal speed footage. There are many tutorials on video sharing sites showing how to do this for specific editors.

How to enter

Create a hyperlapse - both the subject and the camera viewpoint must be moving throughout the video. The speed of subject motion must be a minimum 3x normal

Host your video on YouTube or Vimeo.

Create a post in this thread with THIS IS MY ENTRY in capitals as your first line. Then add, on separate lines:
• Location
• Time & Date
• Aircraft used
• Add anything that might be of interest if you wish

Copy and paste the url of your video hosting onto a separate line in your post with a blank line above and below

The competition will run from 00:01 Sunday 11th May till 21:00 Saturday 7th June. Shortly after the challenge closes a poll, open to all GADC members, will be open until 21:00 on Monday June 9th after which the winners will be declared.

All flights are the sole responsibility of the individual conducting them. Each competitor must abide by the drone code and adhere to the limitations and restrictions imposed upon them by aviation law, the aircraft being used and the qualifications they hold. If a flight is undertaken in a restricted zone proof of permission having been granted is required.

Enjoy, Be Creative & Most Of All Have Fun !

How do i do a hyperlapse on the mini 3?

Easiest way is to record a normal video and then when you edit it speed it up at least 300% :+1:

Can that be done on phone or a certain software?

Yeah me too, back from skeggy, altho i’m going back this Thur’s, see if i get chance to do one

Most video editing software will let you adjust the speed. What do you use to edit?

Just on android

Type “hyperlapse” in the Play Store search and a number of possibilities appear

Thanks ill give it a try

You can double the speed in iMovie on the iPhone, which means you need to export/reimport/speed up a couple of times.

THIS IS MY ENTRY

Dji Mini 4 pro
Scarborough South Bay
11th May 9.30pm

Scarborough South Bay at this time of year and at dusk is so beautiful, you can just about see the coastline up to Whitby.

Never entered this competition before, have been doing RTF for a couole of yrs. I dont have any special editing software beyond Dji’s Create so all my videos are HD not 4k and TBH i dont really know a thing about video.

That’s a very kind thought Mick. I’ll pass though. I did say to the wife on the way “ Never mind, I’ll just buy another drone on the way.” Her reaction was unrepeatable :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:
