The Hyperlapse Challenge #4 - 2025 - Weirs, Locks, Golden Hour - Winner Announced

You are invited to create a hyperlapse using a drone at least 15 seconds long on the subject of

The Challenge will run from 15th June 00:01 to 21:00 on the 12th of July 21.00 hours. Your hyperlapse must be taken within that period. Proof may be required in case of dispute

The challenge will run for 28 days and is open to all GADC members. Once closed a poll open to all will determine the ’ first, second & third place winners ‘.

What is a Hyperlapse?

A hyperlapse video is a time-lapse video that uses a moving camera to create a sense of speed and movement. It’s a creative and visually striking technique that combines a series of still images into an accelerated video sequence.

How is a hyperlapse video created?

1. The camera captures a series of still images at different intervals.
2. The camera moves between each photo.
3. The images are combined to create a seamless, accelerated video sequence.

How is a hyperlapse video different from a time-lapse video?

A hyperlapse video uses different angles to create a sense of movement and speed.
A time-lapse video is traditionally shot on a tripod or on a motion control slider, so the camera stays in almost exactly the same spot.

You can also create a hyperlapse in most video editors using footage shot at normal speed footage. There are many tutorials on video sharing sites showing how to do this for specific editors.

How to enter

Create a hyperlapse - both the subject and the camera viewpoint must be moving throughout the video. The speed of subject motion must be a minimum 3x normal

Host your video on YouTube or Vimeo.

Create a post in this thread with THIS IS MY ENTRY in capitals as your first line. Then add, on separate lines:
• Location
• Time & Date
• Aircraft used
• Add anything that might be of interest if you wish

Copy and paste the url of your video hosting onto a separate line in your post with a blank line above and below

The competition will run from 00:01 Sunday 15th June till 21:00 Saturday 12th July. Shortly after the challenge closes a poll, open to all GADC members, will be open until 21:00 on Monday July 14th after which the winners will be declared.

All flights are the sole responsibility of the individual conducting them. Each competitor must abide by the drone code and adhere to the limitations and restrictions imposed upon them by aviation law, the aircraft being used and the qualifications they hold. If a flight is undertaken in a restricted zone proof of permission having been granted is required.

Enjoy, Be Creative & Most Of All Have Fun !

Since we are getting nice weather in the uk at the moment I’ve decided to add golden hour into the mix also as it came 2nd in the poll,
Rules can change, rules are made to be broken right ? ( in some circumstances anyway )
So take your pick of the above, weirs, locks, golden hour or maybe a combination of the lot the choice is yours :slightly_smiling_face:

Location: The Falkirk Wheel, Forth & Clyde Canal / Union Canal
Time & Date: 21/06/2025, 1-3pm & 01/07/2025 12:30pm-3pm

The Falkirk Wheel is the world’s only rotating boat lift. Opened in 2002, it connects the Forth & Clyde Canal with the Union Canal 35 metres above. The wheel takes just five minutes to lift vessels, a journey that would previously have meant spending the day navigating 11 locks and 44 different lock gates.

Well with just a tad over 48 hours left to go I’d have thought with the lovely weather we’ve been having I’d have put money on a golden hour entry :sunrise:
