The Ironbridge, Telford - Added to Bridges in West Midlands

I have just added this to the map of places to fly your drone at Drone Scene:

Land owner permission not required.

The Ironbridge is located in Telford in the village of Ironbridge. It is well signposted from the M54 and the A5 near Telford in the heart of the Midlands.

Parking is available on both sides of the gorge, but in the summer you’ll be better using the large car park on the other side of the river from Tontine Hill shops (a roundabout just outside the centre of the village gives good signage to the latter).

TOAL is possible both sides of the gorge using the Ironbridge for access, but the side with the shops is better for VLOS.

Plenty of places to visit in the area with museums, cafes, pubs and restraunts all within walking distance. At the time of this entry there were no bylaws or FRZ prohibiting flying, but be careful of crowds!

The originator declared that this location was not inside a Flight Restriction Zone at the time of being flown on 09/02/2023. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location.

Thank You for sharing and the additional info, Really lost myself in your composition. The section towards the Ironbridge with the reflection in the river below was a great shot as the arch is seen as a complete circle as it is reflected in the water. Lovely. Nigel G

@NigelG1 Thanks Nigel I’m glad you liked it.

I want to fly here @D0c.Col, but there are no parking or take off and landing markers. Would you be able to add some to the map please?

@Zero-9 I’ve added the locations that you requested Steve. TOAL is pretty much anywhere down the path that runs the length of the river. Parking is the issue. If you’re lucky you can park on the road. There is a carpark right next to the bridge on both sides of the river but I’ll put where I parked and TOAL.

I’ve been a few times but as ever its best to go when it’s quiet. You’ll have no bother either way TBH.

Good luck. :+1:

Do you need to get permission from AIAA Shawbury (RAF Shawbury) to fly here? It looks to be in their training zone according to Drone Assist

Hi @Okami, it looks as though you’re quite new here :wave:t2:

Why not nip over to the Introductions page, and say hello properly and tell us a bit about yourself. :+1:t2:

No.

It’s 7km away from the nearest FRZ according to Drone Scene.

This :index_pointing_up:

Hi, Like @PingSpike, Rich, says, its nowhere near a FRZ and there are no byelaws to concern you either. Going fwd just use Drone Scene with all its filters selected to check for any restrictions or issues. :hugs:

I have contacted RAF Shawbury and Cosford in the past (and even had dinner in the their Officers’ Mess) and they are more than willing to assist you in flying safely within, or close to thier FRZs. But on this occasion your free as a bird to fly, have a great time!

Drone Scene is much better, but just for reference there isn’t any restriction at Ironbridge on Drone Assist either. :hugs:

Thank you @D0c.Col, I read this as a mandatory rather than a warning in Drone Assist..

Thats odd, this is my screen shot of Ironbridge. The Yellow zone is nowhere near it?

I wonder if it is the filters i am using?

It looks to be the Regulated Airspace - Lower

Same as my settings, except I haven’t zoomed in so much. :hugs:

Sorry beeing a total noobie here, does this mean it is ok to fly without permission? Is it just a warning?

Really appreciate all the support you have given

Already answered @Okami further up in this thread:

Yes, its good to fly! There are no warning yellow restrictions either! Just keep away from crowds, it can get busy in the Spring and Summer. Your spoilt for choice for TOAL. Anywhere along either bank of the river is good.
