So after an early Monday morning start and a job to do in Glasgow, I found myself sat in a hotel bored and only 40 minutes away from the Kelpies.
I managed to arrive at around 8pm, just in time for golden hour! I parked in the top car park which is a couple of minutes walk to the area.
Once in the air I sussed out a few moves that I’d like to do in attempt to make my first real video. Move 1 which can be seen here, to me with my very limited experience in manual moves is amazing (be kind )
My second move was an orbit. Had multiple attempts at this but wasn’t happy with composition, so decided to give it another go.
Selected the closest kelpies to me as the POI, as before, and started the quick shot. Half way through the move it seems the POI moved to the other Kelpie moving the drone further away, and closer to the already close pylon, thus reducing me to Zero!
I now had a dilemma! The time was 9:30pm, and the car park is locked at 9:45pm, do I go straight for the drone and risk sleeping in my car, or do I drive 500m to the other car park and walk back to continue my search, let’s be honest, no one is sleeping in the car!
I continued the search at around 10pm, luckily I knew the approximate location, the drone was still on and had reconnected to the controller. 20 minutes later I spotted flashing lights, this was in fact the strobe that had detached on impact but was only a few meters away from the drone.
Even though the flight was cut short, I had lots of fun learning some moves, even if it was the hard way!
