The most affordable drone insurance just got even better – now valid across the UK 🇬🇧 and all of Europe 🇪🇺

Our insurance is now valid across the UK :united_kingdom: and the whole of Europe :european_union:

Grey Arrows Drone Club is pleased to announce that the £5,000,000 Public Liability Insurance enjoyed by our Gold Members has been extended beyond the UK to also cover recreational drone flights anywhere in Europe :tada:

Even better — this enhancement comes at no additional cost. We’re extending our existing cover as part of our ongoing commitment to offering the best-value drone membership in the UK.

This expanded European cover ensures that our Gold Members can continue to enjoy their hobby while travelling across the continent with complete peace of mind. Whether you’re flying in France, Spain, or anywhere else in Europe, your Grey Arrows Drone Club insurance has you covered.

European cover includes the following countries:

  • Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom (including Channel Islands and Isle of Man), and Vatican City.

And remember — unlike other providers, the difference between our Silver and Gold Memberships is just £9 per year, proving once again that Grey Arrows Drone Club offers the most affordable drone insurance on the planet.

Existing Gold Members can download their new, updated insurance certificates from the Membership Portal at: https://dronescene.co.uk/membership#Downloads

Already have Public Liability Insurance elsewhere? You can get up to 12 months of free cover when you switch from your current provider and become a Gold Member of Grey Arrows Drone Club. Find out more in our earlier announcement.

We know some of our members fly commercially so a quick reminder that many underwriters withdrew “Acts of War” cover in 2025. If you are performing commercial flights, even on an ad-hoc basis, you are required to hold suitable aviation insurance that includes “Acts of War” cover in order for you to comply with EC785/2004 and CAA regulations.
Check with your existing provider to ensure that your commercial insurance remains fully compliant with EC785/2004, and if not, request to cancel, obtain a refund and replace your policy.

Do I need to do anything to enable it in the EU, or does it just apply to my current policy?

Brilliant news, and sincere thanks to the committee for organising this. As someone who flies almost as much in the Republic of Ireland as in the UK this is particularly useful for me. Well done guys! :+1:

This is brilliant! Well done to the team for getting this added to our policies free of charge.

Also, great timing as I’m off to France with my drone in 10 days

I have just downliaded the updated insurance certificate and there is no mention of flying in europe only the UK.

Can you let me know what the situation is with non UK residents? I’ve got my UK insurance elsewhere as the one offered under Gold Membership wasn’t available to me (I live in Australia but travel to the UK and EU regularly and love flying my drone there).

Thanks,

Ian

The European cover is only an extension of the terms of the existing insurance and remains only valid for UK residents.

This is a limitation imposed by the insurers.

Hi @PaulFargo, it looks as though you’re quite new here :wave:t2:

Why not nip over to the Introductions page, and say hello properly and tell us a bit about yourself. :+1:t2:

As per @milkmanchris screenshot, please confirm you’re looking at the correct section of your downloaded document, hopefully you’ve found the wording now?

Remember, if you’re a Silver Member and thinking of upgrading to Gold Membership but don’t want to lose out by upgrading mid-term, we don’t want you to lose out either. Contact us to discuss your pro-rata upgrade options.

And a quick reminder that if you have Public Liability Insurance elsewhere you can get up to 12 months of free cover when you switch from your current provider and become a Gold Member of Grey Arrows Drone Club. More details of this offer can be found in our previous announcement.

Bugger! I have literally just bought some insurance for the EU. Oh well, can’t say I’m not covered !

This is good news. Is the club still exploring commercial cover?

We never stop exploring the additional benefits we can offer our members @AltitudeWales

Commercial insurance has taken a lower priority recently while we work on the next evolution of the club, we’ll provide updates in due course if and when the insurance changes.

Is it possible for Grey Arrows to do some lobbying with the insurers? Clearly, it is sensible if not mandatory to have PL insurance even if you fly recreationally. In many EU countries such as Germany, Austria and Italy, the law states you must have PL insurance irrespective of your drone or whether you are flying commercially or recreationally.

The issue is, while UK and EU insurance companies offer these policies, they only offer them to UK/EU residents, not tourists. Many of these same insurance companies who operate in Asia and America only off PL policies for commercial operators. Not for recreational use.

So, tourists to the UK/EU who want to obey the law (hopefully all do), are unable to get appropriate cover. At least through Grey Arrows we (I live in Australia) can get cover for the UK but not in the EU. The forums down here are full of people trying to solve this dilemma. A number I’ve contacted have used the address of their AirBnB to buy on line policies which may be ok if someone asks you but they will quickly find they are in deep trouble if they have the misfortune of needing to make a claim.

Sorry for the rant but there must be quite a market for insurance companies to provide tourists with PL cover? Their underwriters/actuaries have already determined the risk, I just don’t understand.

Rant over.

Cheers,

Ian

Unfortunately not.

Lobbying the insurance sector is beyond the scope of our drone club.

Understand and thanks. / Ian

Hi.

In need of help please.

When I signed up for gold membership some 18 months ago the insurance covered commercial use. I’m aware that this has since been withdrawn.

I need commercial cover - public liability - for occasional domestic dwelling surveys - gutters, roofing, chimeys etc.

Can anyone help or recommend where to go?

Is there an option to upgrade gold membership insurance?

Thank you.
