That could be true in Blackpool, in the 25 yrs I’ve lived here I’ve ever only seen a Light dusting that s maybe lasted an hour. Woke up this morning to around 2-3”, I unheard of! Grew up nr Ossett in W Yorks, I remember having snow drifts up to roof and being snowed in for a couple of weeks. How times change.

Lived in Abertillery at the time of the 1984 blizzards. Elderly lady at the end of the street had snow up to chimney stack level, and we had to dig down to her bedroom window to get supplies in to her. Her house was cosy, though, they all were; snow is a good insulator and all the draughts were sealed! Town was cut off for 8 days and the cash money ran out, so the Post Office issued vouchers to buy food, not that Tesco had a great range available and there was talk of a helicopter delivery but it never came to that. For some strange reason the milk and bread deliveries were able to get through after 2 or 3 days, though; I think they came down from Brymmawr, which is up the hill from Abertillery.

Didn’t see my car for several days, as it was buried completely in a drift. Electricity & gas supplies were good, and everybody had access to coal in those concession coal days, so we managed ok. Phones were ok as well. Shopping was done by sled, by which I mean plastic bread trays, pulled by humans and, in one case, a black labrador dog! The silence was awesome!

Yer tell kids that terday, they don’t berleeve yer!

My folks are from the same neck of the woods, they say the same about the ossett/wakefield winters when they were younger
