I’m guessing that is “Sky Blue”. ![]()
The overcast conditions of this morning have now cleared sunny and hot (too hot for me, hiding indoors).
32C in Cardiff now just, but dry heat, not humid, so I’m coping. The patio is a suntrap and will hit 40C later. Have to go up the pharmacy for repeat meds in a bit, will need to keep to shade and walk slowly, with my straw hat on. With the Hawaian shirt and in shorts I’ll look like a fat tourist, but at my age you can’t be messing about with heatstroke.
Prolly take the drone over tha park later when it starts to cool a bit…
In my home office at the moment in South Bristol, the outside sensor in under the eaves on the soffit board in the permanent shade, I expect the brick work has heated up and radiating heat up to it.
but it also says rain within 12 hours, we will see.
Fan on in the room, its just bearable with a cold Thatcher’s Haze!
At last the forecast is good for tomorrow heading to the hills first thing to use all 3 batteries on the Mavic, should be plenty to let me get the footage and stills I want
Then home for lunch before heading back out to a rural church and maybe a really trick waterfall
with the mini 4. Its going to be cooking so an early start to climb the hill to the launch site will be advisable, at least the waterfall is in quite a deep shady gorge surrounded by trees, I may just have to settle for stills if my piloting isn’t up to video yet. Hope to have the Neo figured out by the weekend to do some woodland walks, weather permitting ![]()
Thought it would be a good idea to bring the drones on holiday to Cornwall !!!
Got one quick flight in yesterday between showers, but the rest of the week looks like a bust.
Still at least I’m not in work
Well, that’s it then, summer’s over and the nights are drawing in. I got a few locations ticked off (Porthcawl, Barry Island, Southerndown, some Waverley stuff at Penarth, Garth mountain, Newport Bridge & Waterfront), revisited some of last year’s locations, and managed a small meetup on Cardiff Bay Barrage, so I can’t complain, and between other committments and having to rely on public transport I’ve actually done quite well and used my opportunities pretty fully, but it doesn’t *feel * like that!
The weather has been the main culprit of course, which sounds like an odd thing to say after a serious drought and a lot of sunshine, but the sun seems to have had s habit of kicking off the wind this year, and I won’t go out and fly if UAV Forecast, Ventusky, and the Met office all tell me not to! I’ve only gone out and been weather-grounded once though, so could’ve been worse.
Current sitrep is weather-grounded until the 18th by which time sunset is at 19.24 here, and then no other chance until the following Monday, the 22nd. Winds, showers, cloud/poor light; we are definitely back to winter flying opportunity rates!
Bloody weather… and flyability!
Well the weather seems to have taken a turn for the worse here in Lancashire - pissing down for the forseeable future - luckily I managed to find enough subjects for the GADC Birthday Challenge yesterday to see me through until its end on Saturday with the one entry per day rule ![]()
There goes my potential joint 3rd place then!
I don’t think you need worry there ![]()
Weather has been problematic here wind, rain, hail. Managed to get the Mavic up for 20 minutes to have a quick nosey on WTF the digger had been doing in the fields on the other side of the river - drainage Meh!!. Coped better than I expected with a moderate gusting wind. Not interesting enough to take pics/video.
The International fireworks competition in Blackpool, which usually draws a few drone fliers, was supposed to get underway last night. However a thunderstorm and torrential rain forced its cancellation ![]()
Like the title of his video! I think I counted 3 or 4 flashes from my room window.
. A bit moist I’ll grant him that.
I’ve experienced a few times these last few weeks get the bird up and few minutes into the flight I’m racing back through the rain ![]()
What’s annoying is these DJI releases this time of year and constant waiting for a good day that I’m free to fly ![]()
Going off UAVForecast there’s only one day in the next week without either strong wind, rain, or too overcast for decent photography, next Friday, the 19th. And I haven’t been able to fly since the 7th, over a week now, because of the weather! I try to be philosophical about this, but this year is, um, challenging…
Aaand… it’s now 4cast to be o/cast on Friday as well. Yay…
Good for practising some moves, though, I spose.
Be a firmware update as well on the day you’ve been waiting to fly is normal battery waster ![]()
Sounds about right!
Looking at the 4casts, an upgrade to level 6 wind resistance would make a big difference to flyability; the number of days when there are gusts between 25 & 30 mph is significant! Big ask for a sub-250g drone, though, I suppose, and I’m un awe if it’s performance at level 5!
It’s September, equinoxial gales time, so this is normal, but it’s come on top of months of dry & sunny weather with strong winds that have kept me grounded for most of the time; the sun kicks off the stronger winds… 27/8mph is more frustrating than 40 or 50.
