Breaking some flat records here today. Inside temperature is 29 degrees, didn’t know my fermo went up that high, and out on the patio, the little outdoor fermo is on the stop from the wrong side! The scale stops a 50C and it’s above that, estimate 60C. That’s why i’m not going out until the sun goes down! The aquarium is registering at 29.5, again a ‘personal best’, but Bob (all fishes are called Bob, they tell you this if you can lip read, Bob, Bob, Bob, think Rowan Atkinson Blackadder, ‘Bob’), Bob, and the others are quite happy, nobody gasping for air at the surface and all seem relaxed and thriving. They took food happily enough at lunchtime, but I’ve got both the airstones going for circulation.
The outside fishes have gone deep for cooler water, the surface is about 35C. I had the fan going blowing across a bowl of ice frozen solid in the freezer overnight; it lasted half an hour, the airco has been going for an hour and the ice will need replacing before another hour! I’m coping in underpants so far, touch wood, but the next two days are to be hotter and more humid, and desperate measures might have to be resorted to.
Went flugspieling yesterday, a chum was going up to Glyn Neath to pick up some bits for his steam engine (yes, he owns a steam locomotive, an Andrew Barclay industrial shunting engine, or more exactly 2 of them, one being overhauled and one in service, on the Pontypool & Blaenafon Railway), so I went with for the ride. Did Scwd Gwladys (the ‘lady fall’), yet to download footage but not the best since this waterfall (like most in this part of the world) is down in a steep-sided gorge, and I was having trouble with satellites as well as being down amongst the trees! This is, by waterfall country norms a short and easy hike, about 50 minutes each way, so about 2½ hours all in. But I was proper exhausted when I got back to the pub and I’m stiff & aching today, feels more like I did the whole 10-hour 14miles of rough going! This is A Good Thing as I’m gearing up for a useless-old-twat nap in the dark & quiet bedroom, which will lower my body temperature further as well.
But it underlined that my waterfall days are probably over! Maybe again in cooler weather, but I need dry conditions underfoot as well…
Take care and stay cool, dudes & dudesses!
