Wait for the impending Air 3s

Is that why air 3 is on offer at the moment

Probably.

Yes. The question is will the Air 3s be a suffient upgrade to the Air 3? After all I also find the 20% discount being offered by DJI very tempting for what many believe to already be a well specified drone.

The AIR 3 is an amazing machine, I use mine a lot, whether the AIR3S will offer sufficient incentive to swap is something I don’t yet know, but the AIR3 is a very capable 4D drone anyway…

Are the DJI “S” models always an upgrade?

Are any S models ever a cheaper entry point to that particular model? (ie. Lower spec’d)

I’m waiting for a similar spec but a better sensor on the main camera that I think would be the sensible upgrade for DJI to make.

The Air 2s was a better spec camera upgrade

I agree Wayne but liked the idea of the Zoom lens on the Air3. :hugs:

Or you could just fly closer

I do that all the time Chris but sometimes, run out of signal.

I’m not a 100% sure, as I’ve nothing to do a comparison with, but there is also a parallax effect that seems enhanced by the Air 3s .

Or you could save yourself a grand and buy a Mavic 2 Zoom :grinning: :grinning: Parallax, Dolly zoom already built in, I’ll let you have a go with mine Col.

Hi @Colinf7

I have an Air 3 which I purchased ( well, my wife did as a birthday present ) and my drone previously was a Mini 3 Pro.

For me, the main reasons I prefer the Air 3 over the Mini 3 Pro are :

  1. The x3 Telephoto lens…this is mega useful for when you want a nice close up shot but without having to fly closer to achieve it! The ability to swap straight to telephoto is excellent.

  2. Ocusync 4 transmission between the controller and the drone. This provides much better signal strength and helps ensure you stay connected for longer and further without signal loss. Much better than the previous version that was used on the Mini 3 Pro.

  3. The physical size and weight ( 720gms ) make it much more robust. I live right on the coast and the vast majority of my flying is during very windy and gusty situations. The Air 3 is built like a tank and flies in conditions that my Mini 3 Pro really struggled with whilst maintaining smooth video capability.

Obviously, the Air 3 is much heavier than the Mini 3 Pro so you don’t have the freedoms to fly in as many locations as a sub 250g drone…so I would highly recommend obtaining your A2cofc for greater flight freedom.

If I didn’t already own the Air 3 the discount currently available would seriously tempt me into purchasing it. However, I think my wife got a good deal when she purchased it ( back in February ) from Amazon as it was on a lightning deal at the time.

I will be waiting with interest for the upcoming Air 3s or Air 4 ( whatever they call it ). The single biggest upgrade I would like to see would be a larger sensor…just like the Air 2s had!

Give me a shout if you have any further questions regarding your potential purchase and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Hope this helps

I just see one on eBay with less than 30 hours on it absolutely mint it looks, it’s bid is at £1.24
Or buy it now £475 with filters case etc, not sure if that’s a good deal as I know nothing price wise what these retail for.

475 with everything is a pretty good price, but if you could get it for less, all the better. Stable as a rock even in high winds, 7 times optical zoom, dolly zoom already built in, same airframe as Mavic 2 Pro, what’s not to like!

… get yourself a spare 2 Pro gimbal/camera and you can easily swap between the 2 Zoom and 2 Pro set up - best of both worlds :+1:

Only about 4 screws and a couple of plugs, 15 minutes at most, firmware is the same for both.
