This will hurt

Come on then, click search, type many versions of what you are looking for, click web links, search key words.
Items don’t exist, webpages no longer hold the item and its been superseded because the post im reading is a little out of date!!

So im going to ask a question.. one that been asked many, many, maannyy times.. but hopefully the answers bring it up to date!

Where the blleepp do I start when it comes to FPV drones.. must be in the self build bracket, would prefer a kit, id like to find some bandos innit, and rip some parks with trees and climbing frames innit…!!
But also get some good footage. Cinematic stuff now and again. Essentially, i just want to play!!

I havent got anything for FPV.
And the searching around manufactures, size drones, power, GPS, VTX, googles, batteries, betaflight, the list goes on.. it is boggling me!

I think i’d like a 3-5in prop.
Happy to solder. (Did it in school 20 years ago, so ill be fine!!)
Happy with some programming. Work with networks at work.
Think I want a DJI camera..
Think I want DJI goggles…
Other than that, any suggestions?

Id like an easy answer.. if one exists in the mine field.
Id like some direction… am i really spending 150 on a Master boxer, 500 on a DJI camera, because the kit doesnt come with one, 300 on DJI goggles.. ‘x’ amount on recievers.. because again.. it doesnt come with one.. but then which one do I get…!!
Asthetics.. Id like to build a rugged looking quad.

So other than some of the lingo… ive got no idea.. no matter how hard I search!

I know theres no 1 answer, but this is a post for guidance.. maybe with updated info, rather than info from 2024.. or has that info not changed!

Loves a waffle me!

Ta muchly

Don’t i know it!

Although, to a degree, thats not the issue.
Its paying for something and not knowing/understanding theres more to pay for.
Here’s a packet of crisps. Thats £1. If you want the crisps inside the pack.. another £1, when you get it home, the packet of crisps, comes seperate and you have to pack the crisps in the bag.. then you need a heat rail to seal both ends of the bag… all before you can eat them.
Terrible, terrible analogy!

I get its self build. Just the options are seemingly endless, would be nice to find a product and be able to price the whole thing properly! Too expensive/more budget in the tank, now i need to know what other options are available without confusing myself!!

Much like my fishing, i never expect anyone to tell me where to stand and cast, ill work that out. Thats all part of the journey and enjoyment.

Just need some love, an arm around the shoulder and directing!!

250 on camera and vtx ( dji 04 pro )130 (dji 04 " lite")

200 radio master TX16, 150 radio master boxer.

30+ on a frame.

60+ on flight controller and esc

12 on a reciever

50 for 4 x xing motors.

batteries :thinking: now theres a question on whether you go 4s or 6s. you will need around 1000mah and around 5 of them as a starting qty.

you will also need a lipo charger which will set you back upwards of 30.

all prices are guesstimates using AliExpress.

But as said above, get on the sim.

The other option is go with a bind and fly.

Bangood always has some great deals.

I recently purchased a GepRC 5” Vapor D5 with O4 Pro and ELRS for just over £300. Considering the O4 Pro air unit is £209, Flight controller approx £60 and 4x Motors are £60.

Sometime ago I was in the same place as you, I searched and ended up ‘guessing’, purchased loads of components including frames, electronics, motors, props and batteries! Built a few only to find that was the easiest bit!

The BIGGEST part of building a quad is the tuning of the electronics after you have it built… Being the impatient bugger I am, I gave up on that idea and decided to stick to off-the-shelf models, nowhere near as satisfying as building your own. But I wanted to fly, and still do!

As a result, I have loads of components collecting dust, well the bags are. when you decide what size you want to go with, drop me a DM we’ll see what we can sort out. And it may save you a bit of money.

I also have a Radio Master TX15 Max and some analogue goggles that need new homes.

No DJI VTX though.
