Trip to Anglesey

I have 5 days leave to use before the end of March and I have been told Anglesey has some great spots you can fly from.

I will be taking my mini 3 pro and car camping.

There are lots of cheap sites (off season) and wild camping is an option if you are set up for it.

It’s about 4hrs drive for me. I was wondering if anyone would be in the area who would be available for a meet? Or tips from someone local. Dates are flexible. Let me know what you think.

Many thanks.

This has got to be in top locations in the uk. If the weather is good you will enjoy.

Parys copper mine isn’t too bad a place - providing it’s not blowing 70mph+, and the rain isn’t hitting you from every direction

I have never been but I’ve heard good things. I guess if it’s pouring and blowing a gale it will be a wasted trip but fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:

There are several superb lighthouses if that’s your thing. On all four corners of the island. Southstack (NW) is possibly the most dramatic, with towering cliffs. Beaumaris castle, by the Menai Straits is another landmark (NT). I walked part of the North coast Anglesey footpath a few years ago so for me, the North Coast has the most dramatic scenery. One highlight along the north coats is Porth Wen Brickworks, an isolated site is reached via footpaths from the A5025. The prevailing winds tend to be from the west, so northwest coast could be challenging for a mini 3 pro, but fingers crossed you get decent weather.

Hi John, you won’t be disappointed with Anglesey, it’s beautiful! Went there a couple years back, with the drone and got some cracking footage. Watch this video for some highlights. I can also recommend Beaumaris Castle and Penmon point.

Haven’t booked anywhere yet. Most places don’t open until March.

I had a little fly around Beaumaris when i was there, youve got the castle (which i didnt know was there till i got home), coast line and the menai bridge area is close by

Is there anything in particular you want to fly while there.make sure you take pound coins a lot of pay and display but not all take card.

Well almost ready. will be heading off Friday morning. About 4-5hrs depending which way I go.

The long range forecast shows a glimmer of home but any forecast longer than a couple of days may as well be a guess. Hopefully across Friday to Monday there will be at least a window of flyable weather. :crossed_fingers:

So it will be March 6th until the 9th. I’m happy to travel around Anglesey if anyone is available for a meetup.

John I so wanted to go but with a 10hrs driving the next day it would be too much for me. I did not want say at last minute. Hope you understand.Unfortunately I am not 18 anymore and will be a bit to much but can’t wait meet up in the future.

No worries. I’m sure we can arrange something in the future.

Safe journey.

Hi @John69

Ive not visited Anglesey since getting my first drone, but having re-visited the shots i took from the ground a couple of years ago (plus a bit of hindsight googling!) it’s definitely moved up the list for a re-visit! It’s a 550 mile round trip for me to pop back up there, but i think it would be worth it once the weather improves.

I’ve added a few shots i took on my last visit below - i think each location works from an aerial perspective too.

Its not an exhaustive list (I was only on the island itself for 2 days) but there are some great areas off the island worth exploring too but for me, driving up from Wiltshire, there were plenty of stops on the way up driving through South and Mid-Wales over 5 days.

Shots below of Twr Mawr lighthouse, the Menai bridge, South Stack lighthouse, and the Penmon/Trwyn Du lighthouse. All are on Drone Scene (Twr Mawr lighthouse is on under Llandowyn Island)
