In response to a consultation carried out between 22nd November 2023 and 10th January 2024, the CAA has today published “CAP3105: Review of UK Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Regulations: Consultation Reply Document.”

CAP3105 contains significant information about the future of the hobby.

It outlines the new UK-specific Class Mark scheme and also addresses Remote ID — both of which are due to be implemented on 1st January 2026, and both of which will affect you.

The rid is implementing the possibility of trouble that’s what it’s doing,
As soon as the Karen’s get a whiff of this they’ll be over us like a rash !
Time to start wearing a body cam for your own safety ?, for then the police to say ‘ oh you have to file a report ‘ when you’ve had all your equipment smashed & your eye knocked out of its socket, then when Karen ends up in court & gets a slap on the wrist & can’t pay you back, your hundreds of quids down with a busted eye !
I don’t think I’ll be buying anymore drones just yet,
Gutting but is what it is, the thought of going to a location & having to rush because you don’t want anyone turning up with confrontation is off putting, you’d have to go & do your location like you was doing in heist, get in get out before anyone turns up, not enjoyable to say the least !

Edit : whilst it’s good to hear the possibilities of the positives mentioned & although I knew the possibility of rid was coming, it’s the thought of who’s hands it’s available too ‘ not bothered about the authorities tbh ‘ it’s all the others .

Thanks to @ianinlondon for putting together this informative and succinct analysis. Certain other YouTubers have been talking about if for over 40 minutes…

I’m very happy that the Air 3S will be getting more freedoms if this comes in as planned. Remote ID definitely seems like a bit of a worry, and - as said in the video - will have little to no effect on the actual bad actors out there.

Also, stand by for “auditors” investing in bigger and better hardware if they have shiny new laws to bang on about… :roll_eyes:

It is what it is.

I’ve got nothing to hide and if I have to have R.I.D to fly, then I get myself R.I.D

As for Karen’s kicking the :poop: out of me for flying a drone, and smashing up my gear.

It’s no different to going out on the lash, in the city, having a few beers, you pass a compliment to someone and you end up getting your skull smashed in or a blade rammed between you ribs, or even worse.

You weat a nice watch and some scrot, rides passed you on an E-Scooter and grabs it.

Every where we go now, we are already being tracked by 000’s of CCTV cameras, being listened to by our smart speakers and smart phones, our data is worth a fortune to retailers (that’s why the likes of Tesco give you discount for having a club card).

Facebook, Insta, Twitter, Tik-tok, etc…

In my mind, it’s a little late to worry about a small beacon transmitting my location when I fly my drones.

Car manufacturers know where we are when we drive, because the vehicle is transmitting telemetry data to their data banks, they tell you it’s monitoring your car wellbeing, but they know when you’ve been involved in a serious RTC and the system automatically calls the emergency services.

We allow apps on our smart phone to track our location, we give AI loads of info, whether you know it or not.

Take Microsoft Teams, for example, since the middle of April this year, there’s often a random AI attendee to meetings / calls that goes by the name of FireFly, it sends meeting attendees a written summary of what you’ve been speaking about.

As I’ve stated earlier, it’s too late to start worrying.

I might come up with a “Karen-Magnet”. Cheap drone with RID in the hover near where I’m flying, burner phone connected to an RC-N1 remote or similar. Stick the controller and phone on a bus, and watch Karen/Ken run round in circles trying to find the operator… :laughing:

Hello, here in Spain it has been in force since January 1st 2024 and I can tell you that at the beginning we pilots were alarmed for the same reasons you mention in your post; but in practice we already have a year and a half and nobody remembers the Remote id, the apps to detect drones are either very bad or they don’t work. When I travelled to the UK last summer, I even complained to DJI because my Remote id had disappeared from the DJI fligth and the answer was that it was not required in the UK. DJI adapts the app to the laws of the place where you fly.

A good insight, but I guess my main complaint is my DJI drone doesn’t have remote ID and is not currently capable, regardless of where it is. I am disappointed the RID requirements in the UK have extended beyond what is required in Europe with C0 drones also needing it if they are >100g and have a camera. Having spent ~£600 on my drone equipment, I’m now concerned where this leaves me and what options I have with retrospectively fitting a module, whether this takes me over any weight limits that may restrict my flying, or whether it simply isn’t possible at all and I have an expensive paper weight! Hopefully it can just be a software addition but I genuinely don’t know at this point and this uncertainty is frankly frustrating.

How do people think this will affect fpv? If 100grams is a toy now, do I need someone spotting if im flying a micro drone or tinywhoop?
