UK drone regulations have changed – what does it mean for you?

It’s the biggest shake-up of drone regulations we’ve seen in many years.

Today, 1st January 2026, sees the new CAA drone regulations come into effect.

As the UK CAA continues to transition its drone regulations closer to those already in place across Europe, the rules have become increasingly difficult to understand in terms of what you can fly and where you can fly it.

Some of the changes favour existing EU class-marked drones, particularly heavier C1 drones such as the DJI Air 3S, Air 2S and Mavic 3 Classic. These changes provide much greater freedom and removes much of the practical need for an Article 16 Operational Authorisation by delivering many of the same advantages within the Open Category – without the formal risk assessment and other overheads required by Article 16.

We’re pleased to announce that Good 2 Go has been updated to support all the new regulations.

While our Silver and Gold Members have been enjoying it for the last few weeks, we’re pleased to announce that Good 2 Go is now freely available to all Bronze, Silver and Gold Members

It’s incredibly easy to use. Simply complete the short Q&A to find out whether you can fly your drone model in specific circumstances, what separation distances apply, and whether your drone is required to broadcast Remote ID.

Good 2 Go checks all possibilities within the new CAA regulations and tells you not only whether you can or can’t fly, but more importantly, why.

@ianinlondon’s latest video breaks down the new 2026 rules for flying drones in the UK, along with the changes for flying larger C1 drones in built up areas like towns and cities, and what the rules mean for people flying smaller drones like the Mini 5 Pro and the DJI Neo 2 or DJI Flip.
