Unable to update DJI Mini 4 Pro firmware - "not enough space"

Hi All,

Help and advice please. Not flown my Mini 4 Pro for a while due to weather and hospital appointments. I decided to get it out and check for latest updates. It needed an update, so selected it. It started the update, then said it cannot continue as not enough space. I have never seen this issue before. I tried again with same problem and asked me to clear space.

Had a look in settings and no files to clear up to save space to get new update!!!

What is going on???

Cheers,
Rich

Just guessing/thinking aloud here… Do you have an SD card in the Drone? is there space on it? The reason I ask is the update will likely be ā€˜Cached’ to the SD or the drome memory before it can them do the update from there…

If there is an SD card ensure there is space on it, the more the better

If there is not an SD card, put one in and retry see if that helps, if not nothing lost…

Let us know how you get on.

That might be a good point .. but relating to the onboard built-in 2GB of memory, rather than the SD card?

Photos/Vids can be save to that (and will be if used without an SD card installed), and it’s probably that which is used for the firmware update?

Is this not an Android device free space error?

Which controller / device combo are you using @Wadda-C2? Are you using the RC 2? Or the RC-N2 with a phone or tablet?

At a guess, your device is probably full of default cached video from the Fly app. Have a nosey in and around the \android\data\dji.go.v5\files\mediacaches\ folder paths.

I’m using the RC 2 remote and have a 64gb micro SD in the drone and always format it after transferring and videos to PC, so baffled as to what the problem is.

I also TXT my buddy Ian Wells for advice, and he replied to say he is in Nepal up a mountain so will get back to me when he is back.

So it’s not the cached media then?

Have you cleared the onboard 2GB storage?

To format the DJI Mini 4 Pro’s internal storage, go to the storage settings in the DJI Fly app. From the flight screen, tap the status bar, select ā€œStorage Location,ā€ navigate to ā€œSystem Settingsā€ > ā€œCameraā€ > ā€œStorage,ā€ and ensure internal storage is selected before confirming the format. Remember to back up any important files first, as formatting will erase all data.

Did you not check it?

If you havent flown it in a while i’ld suggest just doing a hard reset.

1, should solve your problem if everything is back to factory.

2, if you havent flown in a while then it really wouldn’t hurt having to go through setting everything up again. RTH, avoidance, foolow mode  re familiarise etc.

3, I follow gates advice for problem solving and troubleshooting

As mssrs vibe n spike mentioned. Any similar system will get clogged up with spurious data over time. A nice hard reset is like a decent service for a car.

Hi Nik, thanks for that buddy. I’m not Techy so hard reset maybe best option for me. So, if I do this, then search for updates, it should in theory install the latest update shouldn’t it?

Pretty much yes.

Hard reset, clears all the data and should leave you with as much space as god, i mean dji intended.

Well Ladies & Gents. I wanted as much advice as possible regarding my issue of update. You guys said a full reset may be best thing to do

My buddy Ian in London also txt me back on my mobile after returning from his trip to Nepal. He gave me a few Ideas to try after sending him screen shots. He too said he had not seen an issue like it and suggested a factory reset too. I did this other night and tried again. Wehaaaaaay!!! it worked, just had to sign into DJI again, then do update and worked a treat so have latest update on drone and controller.

However, I forgot to write down settings I had put in for smoother flights that I had, but great Ian then txt me a link to a video he did on Mini 4 Pro for smoother flights, so just have to put those in and wait for a none rainy day here in Leeds to try it.. No doubt that none rainy day will be when I have other Doc and hospital appointment :joy::rofl::joy::rofl::joy::rofl::joy:

Thanks again for everyone’s help and advice. :+1::+1::+1::+1::+1::+1::+1:

Yep… Every time I tried update it kept saying need to delete files here and there to free up space. No matter what I did I still got same message.. Hard reset was only option.

I obviously have Micro SD in drone, Ian said to put a micro SD in transmitter that may help.. Just did hard reset and hope it stays fine for a long time.

Did you try changing the storage from the controller to a memory card?

No buddy, that is one thing Ian in London said to try, but with having no spare SD card a format was best option and did the trick. Might have to get another card just for transmitter to stop happening again.
