@SparkyFPV @milkmanchris I’m having a problem with this car, its blue can you help me?
My bad. I thought DJI classified authorization zones internationally. This was the one near Carcassonne.
Hi
I realise this is an old thread but I am just going through the unlocking process for the first time so looking for as much info as I can, so it all goes smoothly. I’ve informed police and got an incident number, got approval from air traffic control within an hour, just submitted application to dji - got acknowlegement - not sure how long approval takes, but so far so good!
I just don’t know what comes next - how to do the unlocking on the controller. Can anyone guide me on the steps to do this and can it only be done on the day of the flight?
thanks
Why ?
Why?
DJI removed all their geofencing last year, you can fly anywhere without needing their approval or having to unlock anything.
You might need to check your firmware is up to date and update your “flysafe database” via your DJI Fly app.
The website for RAF at Lossiemouth told me to do that. I’m not sure the ATC needed it but the police were happy to have been informed.
Theres always the worry you get the wrong dude on the phone and they say no.
Its your lawful activity, no laws being broken, I liken it to do you warn them before you drive to the shops?
Doh!
The manual still refers to it so I followed all the instructions on their website - there was nothing to suggest it wasn’t required - and they sent me an acknowledgement!
Ha ha - I just got this email… and a link to re-submit!!
Dear DJI Users,
Your unlocking application (Tracking Number: 37318e9f-3c78-42f6-9598-2f9a45fc3729) has not been passed because of the reason below:
I am glad to inform you that DJI GEO system has been updated. DJI has removed restricted zones or authorization zones from this area. Please connect your drone to the remote controller, and update the Flysafe database to the latest version 01.00.01.38, and your drone your drone can take off here without being unlocked. The remaining Geo zones you can see are warning zones and warning zones will not prevent the drone from taking off. As a friendly reminder, please abide by the local regulations for drone operations. Thanks!

Oh - it’s all part of the learning process. Seems like this has taken me twice as long as it should have done. The ATC bit was quite easy really.
I think I just did that in the course of doing this. I’m still a bit confused about the maps in the controller - where they are and how to use them. Actually I’m finding flying the drone is easier than navigating the controller!
You live and learn…
That’s the only problem with manuals, they’re never as up to date as your helpful drone club is
@PingSpike @milkmanchris Thank you both for your help … again (it won’t be the last time I’m sure!)
P.S. - I used the very helpful circle and measuring tool in dronescene to highlight the area in the FRZ and sent the screen shot to the ATC. Easy peasy.
@milkmanchris My understansing of the procedure, Chris was when I needed permission to fly in RAF Luachars FRZ. They gave permission providing I supply a PIN No supplied by the local police. Tried it, with some trepidation, but was given the PIN No no problem.
The Luechars guy, said it was to stop Karens and Kens bothering the police or the ATC with nuisance calls about drones. They tell 'em to back off as they are aware of the legal flight.
Worked great for me.
Agree - The police knew exactly what I wanted and why. They said they don’t get many requests but seemed to appreciate that I had contacted them about it.
