USB-C, iPhone 15 and RC connection, Potensic Atom SE

Hi,

I have just upgraded my phone from an iPhone 12 to an iPhone 15, which has a USB-C connector.
If I boot up the RC and the drone (and allow them to connect) and then connect my new phone via a USB-C/USB-C lead, the RC disconnects from the drone and the phone starts to charge the RC.

I have tried connecting everything up in different orders, but still no joy.

The Drone is a Potensic Atom SE and is a great item and suits my needs perfectly, so I do not want to get a different drone.
The phone can only connect via OTG cable (so I am told).

I have done research on the WWW, but cannot seem to find an answer specific to the Atom that works.
I have even tried a USB-c to USB-a lead with a USB-a to USB-c adaptor, hoping that would work … it didn’t!
I have also tried all off the above with an android phone (albeit, it does have a USB-c connector) and that didn’t work either.
Does anyone know of there is a fix or workaround, please?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Capers1962 , it looks as though you’re quite new here :wave:t2:

Why not nip over to the Introductions page, and say hello properly and tell us a bit about yourself. :+1:t2:

:ok_hand: Done.

From a quick search online it seems Apple have introduced reverse charging to their USB C port and this is what is causing your issue. It has been suggested to get a lightning to USB C adapter (that is if you originally have a lightning cable for the controller) that should allow usual data flow.
Something like this on Amazon

Amazon USB C to Lightning Adapter

I don’t have either the drone or phone model so this is only a suggestion from searches.
Hope you find a solution soon.

Hi.

Thank you for the reply.
Wouldn’t it be useful if you could turn reverse charging off …

The adaptors you mention are not fot OTG use, so the phone would still want to charge the RC instead of connect to is for the setting and display.

I can’t be the only person having this problem … can i?

The search continues.

You can turn it off in the iPhone through the DJI fly settings but would need to be connected to drone probably so not much help to you  make sure that the lead is the right way round in the controller as one end has to go in the right hand side as it has a mark on it, that may help :crossed_fingers:

Hi.

I have just had comms with Apple Support, who say that you cannot disable reverse charging on a iPhone 15.

Who’d have thought this would ever have been a problem.

More an atom issue than an Apple one - DJI let you set it (both in go and fly apps)

Just noticed on connection the phone said charging the controller but for a very short while on my IPhone 15 Pro but as full charge on controller it’s possible that the phone charges anything connected now, pain in the arse if it does :unamused: My mini2 still flys so not a DJI issue with disconnection.
Just connected iPhone to android tablet and yes the phone will charge anything connected :unamused:

It seems that anything that is connected to the iPhone 15 will be charged (if it has a battery).
In an effort to narrow it down further, I have connected the iPhone to the kids android tablet, my iPad Air 4 and EarPods, and they all started to receive a charge from the iPhone.
I have also tried the above using my ‘work issue’ Samsung with a USB-c port and got the same result, so it looks as though it is a USB-c related problem which may be fixable if you could disable reverse charging from the phone. :man_shrugging:

This has basically grounded me until I can get a fix to allow me to use a phone screen for the finer point of flying and capturing footage and images.
I know I can still fly blind, but that kind of defeats the object of flying a drone with a camera …
I will continue hunting for a fix and would be most grateful of anything else worth trying, if not already covered above.

TIA.

Hi,

I also have a Potensic Atom SE, nice little drone. Mine works fine with Android.

These guys might be able to help:

I hope it is OK to post this link here  If not, apologies

Hi, I agree, it is a nice little drone.

The operating system is the problem, it’s the reverse charging by devices with a USB-C charging port that is the problem.
Nearly all new Android and Apple devices (either phone or tablet) are charged by USB-C so when the RV is connected ted via an OTH cable, the RC switches off so it can be charged because the connected device seems to want to charge the RC. ( I hope that makes sense).

Why not just use your old phone?

Someone in that group link might be able to help with that problem.

Are you using the pukka Potensic cable? Some people have reported issues with other ‘compatible’ cables.

I don’t have the pulls lead, but I’m having the same problem with my DJI RC, too.

I hope so.

Because I traded it in …… had so have kept it, there wouldn’t be a problem.
