Video editing for beginners

I would like to do some video editing (including adding music) but have never tried it before.
Can anyone recommend some videos, books, software etc for idiots!

Thanks

I like using Davinci resolve the free one, go on utube there loads of great videos showing how to use, have a look at some of my videos that I learned to by watching videos on editing. jamesclarke 7624 , hope it helps you too.

Another vote for Da Vinci Resolve here - amazing capabilities especially considering it is still free :man_shrugging: :+1: :+1:

As already mentioned - loads of tutorial videos on YouTube - Casey Faris, MrAlexTech and Daniel Bataal to mention just a few :+1: :+1: :+1:

Another vote for Casey Faris and DaVinci Resolve. His tutorials are really in depth and usually include downloadable media so you can follow along with the steps.

All I would add, as a long term user of DaVinci Resolve .. it isn’t for the faint hearted. It is a powerhouse of a piece of software.

In that respect, I hesitate to recommend it for “beginners”.

Something basic to get the idea, first, perhaps.

It also has a moderately high minimum computer spec requirement that can easily exceed someone’s current computer.

Thanks everyone. Good point re hardware. Although I have a iPad I am more comfortable using my windows laptop

I’d agree with @OzoneVibe. DV is, in culinary terms, a Cassoulet as compared to a panfried duck breast. iMovie is simpler for a beginner.

I can recommend Luxea. It’s not as feature rich as DaVinci but simpler for beginners and runs well on less powerful PCs. It produces decent results on my old windows laptop.

I have been using CapCut (free version) and it seems to do the trick, while being pretty basic. I will look at DV Resolve once I am a bit more adept at these things..
