Always wanted an RC Spitfire. I’d been watching these little Volantex ones for a while, but they always came with a controller, which I don’t need as they will work with my Jumper T-Lite. I already had one of their Mini Trainstars.
Then on AliExpress a couple of weeks ago they started to appear without the controller, so I had to snaffle one.
I must say for the price, £50 posted, you do get a nicely made little plane with all working surfaces and gyro stabilisation. (I did have to get some batteries off Amazon though as none of mine fit. £11 for two.)
Need some AA batteries, and that’s it It’s fun and stabilised, etc…
Very similar to the one I have, just he got his without the remote
As Yith said, you can use a current remote (my TX16S 4 in 1 works with it), but if you’ve not got one, you get all you need (maybe get a few spare batteries), and off you go
If you have an OpenTx/EdgeTX radio with a 4in1 module (external or internal) then that can be the controller, but it’s not the most obvious to set up, but we can help with that if need be.
Otherwise the RTF version comes with controller and batteries for £80 ish…
Throttle up chuck it. Yes on beginner and intermediate modes it’s easy. A little too small for expert (no gyro).
Just keep throttle up and it’ll fly safe. It’s LOS so wear sun glasses. You have to fly it. But it’ll fly level and turn easy. It’s not got GPS or anything to return to home, just stabilised using a gyro
I find intermediate easier as you can turn quicker. I would not recommend expert mode at all…
Edit: On my first flight with it (as never flown a plane before), I hit a telegraph pole, landed in middle of a road, went over and it got run over by a 4x4. It was totally fine somehow?! Find an area with a lot of open space, stand with the sun behind you and fly ovals in front of you. Should just need to turn one direction. Landing isn’t too bad (I actually find LOS landing easier than FPV with a plane!) as you can see the ground better!
It’ll fly off forever, well more likely until it runs out of battery!
You won’t fly it far as you need to watch it and fly it! It’s quite small. I’d recommend starting with ovals, and flying isn’t too hard… Landing… Well that’s another matter! Don’t worry they solid as heck the props are designed to simply pop off if hit anything or anyone (they won’t hurt a fly). When you land leave the plane where it is and find the prop and at least 75% of the time it’ll pop off!
So, yes Intermediate is the easiest mode to fly. You can get stuck flying too straight in Beginner. Unable to turn. I do use expert without too much issue. Loops are pretty easy.
If you start to fly too far, dive into the ground. The plane will take it. Very little chance of breakages.
Avoid areas with tall trees.
My first time out with my first one it was very windy. It still managed to fly fine. Though basically it was doing that hanging in the wind thing that some birds do… When I turned it dashed off behind me and I had to turn it back again sharpish.
When I land the prop always comes off (it’s supposed to). Somehow I have always managed to find it though. It’s black and now I’ve painted the tips red.
They really are easy and the only time we’ve had massive issue was when Brendan flew it infront of the sun and lost sight of it. It ended up on the road and somehow managed to avoid being run over.
He also panicked at one point. If you go too far, turn on a dime or dive into the ground.
Expert mode is no gyro stabilisation! That’s what I meant to say As yith said, intermediate gives you more control (can turn further, just think that beginner gives you 20 degrees movement in the 2 axises, and midd something like 30-40, numbers are made up, but it won’t roll).
Also there’s a “trick button” on the left side that when you press, and then push the roll stick one direction it’ll roll once in that direction and then level off.
If you’re off the sticks in beg/midd modes it should level off and fly straight and flat. keep the throttle up though
Ummm dunno I’ve got a couple of those lying round, but then you’d need a battery. These little planes are “toys” really. simple chuck it up at your local park without issue.
