Hey all just to give you guys a warning. I’ve been trying to buy a mini 4 pro online from CEX and I’ve now had three in a row that were still bound to the original owners accounts. Luckily when they send the invoice through the serial number is on there so I can check with DJI if it’s still bound and managed to get one cancelled before being sent but still had to return the others in store. It’s ridiculous that you can’t contact ahead to get them to check properly and order from a specific store. I wouldn’t order from them if I were any of you! I’m only tied into buying from them because I’ve got an exchange voucher.
I would never buy a second hand drone, how do you know how the previous owner used it, no thanks new only for me
You might want to use that CEX voucher to buy something other than a drone from them ![]()
That happened to me.
CEX shouldn’t be accepting them if they’re connected.
I sold a DJI to MPB and they checked it was disconnected before accepting it.
I Bought my M2 Pro from MPB and very happy with it, looked like a new drone.
I bought my Mavic 2 pro from CEX and it was fantastic , batteries had been charged twice , however that was before they where bound to a account
I’ve bought Mavic Mini and Mini 2 from CEX no problems. The mini 2 had just 1 cycle on one of the batteries.
I have faith in buying on here. Bought a mini 2 from Tim a couple of years ago and absolutely no issues.
Yes sorry on here has been fine, my mistake
All sorted in the end, the Eastleigh branch manager Josh has found a new unactivated one and got the price dropped for me. Collecting tomorrow.
I wouldn’t even consider selling a drone to CEX. You’d get more selling privately. CEX are the equivalent of We Buy Any Car. scam ![]()

Cex has policy to check if drones or any other item that’s similarly bound to an account during testing.
The tester/counter person is supposed to confirm this at the time of booking in the device. It’s not in their to buy bound stock. Often times it results in dead stock thay can only be used for spare parts except in the case of mobiles where they have ‘alternative’ options.
They even have or had checklists to confirm this is done and leave an audit trail incase of errors.
Needless to say these procedures are not always followed. A problem compounded by the fact the majority of CEX stores are franchise and not corporate run these days. Franchises have limited oversight potential but should still be held to the same standard as corp stores.
If your in the situation where you are ‘bound’ by a voucher i’ld suggest visiting a store and make the purchase through them. They should be able to get the item shipped to them so you can inspect it before taking possession. If they insist on having sent to an address you specify, at least you have the recourse of taking back to the store should you have issues.
There are good deals to be had with CEX but unfortunately it’s a case of ‘caveat emptor’
Ive just bought one from CEX. I’ve used them before, both selling and buying and they’ve been great.
I put the serial number into DJI and it tells me when activated and expiry date of the warranty but how do i know if its bound to an account? Is it obvious if it is still bound?
Cheers
One sure way is to power it up and check in the controllers software.
It should show you there if it’s bound by displaying a slightly redacted email address of the account it’s bound too.
I used the online chat and asked them to tell me if the serial number of the drone is bound to an account and they told me straight away.
Just done that and guess what… its still bound.
Have emailed CeX to cancel my order…it was ready for despatch 48 hours ago but yet to enter Royal Mails system (they are expecting it but not yet scanned in).
What a pain in the ass, but better finding out now than when i tried to add it to my account. Thanks for posting about this!
No worries, glad it could be of some help. From what the staff have said is that if you go into store and speak to them they can phone ahead to a store that has one in stock and check it there and then to see if it’s bound or get the serial number for you to check with DJI. If it’s unbound they can do a store transfer and get it sent to the store near you to collect. Takes time but it’s a bit of a work around. It’s been a massive headache for me but in the end I got a brand new, unused one for the price of a B grade so save a few hundred pounds so made it worth it.
Ive yet to hear back from CeX but have eneded up buying a lightly used mini 3 fly more package from a guy on a forum for only £70 more than the drone and controller only from Cex. Might even arrive tomorrow which would be ace !
I am curious what sort of response you get from CEX.
