Warwick Castle - Added to Castles and Fortifications in West Midlands

I have just added this to the map of places to fly your drone at Drone Scene:

Warwick Castle is a medieval castle developed from a wooden fort originally built by William the Conqueror during 1068.

The original wooden motte-and-bailey castle was rebuilt in stone during the 12th century. During the Hundred Years War, the facade opposite the town was refortified, resulting in one of the most recognisable examples of 14th-century military architecture. It was used as a stronghold until the early 17th century, when it was granted to Sir Fulke Greville by James I in 1604. Greville converted it to a country house, and it was owned by the Greville family (who became Earls of Warwick in 1759) until 1978, when it was bought by the Tussauds Group.

Hi @Vance2409, it looks as though you’re quite new here :wave:t2:

Why not nip over to the Introductions page, and say hello properly and tell us a bit about yourself. :+1:t2:

There are no parking or take off and landing markers on the map at this location. Could anyone that has flown here or knows the area add some useful markers to the map, please?

@Committee I’ll do it if no-one else has by the end of this summer. Plan to go once the weather improves.:saluting_face:

I live in the area and know the road and town side a little. Warwick Castle is a very popular, big national attraction, with crowds of people in and around the vicinity most times of the year. Even if you approach from the south side Castle Park for TOAL, you have to watch out for crowds in the southern park, as it is used for outdoors events such as Trebuchet. You can probably get some great sunset shots from a further distance, but I haven’t considered Warwick Castle as a project yet. As always, stick to very early or very late flights and fly outside opening times to de-risk.

That’s my 2p. I hope it’s useful. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

@ptnqmstr Probably take off North side after I do a recce from the Warwick Castle Bridge Viewpoint. I"ll use my Air 3S and telephoto Lens to get an idea of the crowds. Prob late in the day as I’ll be inside the castle all day filming in there! :hugs::+1:

Exciting. Make sure you post the footage on here. I’d love to see it. Good luck. :crossed_fingers:
