Well that didn't go as planned

Well reporting back on first training flight for Black Rat and myself.

First off the Ophelia Go app decided it would drop out everytime I logged onto it. Bit of a moan after flight training over coffee to Holy Stone as reading the reviews of the app I’m not the only one.

Any other Holy Stone pilots have and ideas.

So abandoned the idea of filming and moved onto flight training. With a qualified commercial helicopter pilot filming me (it’s his land training will take place) we went through the startup procedures. This will get quicker the more I do it, but got dizzy calibrating the compass. This did cause a few titters in the cheap seats.

Then take off this went well so attempted to fly a box. Again this will improve with more practice.

I began to notice that when turning left or right (yaw I think) when hovering Black Rat would also fly backwards slightly. Now I only used the left stick when doing this. Now this is where I would like some advice.

When it came the landing l Transitioned into a hover in close proximity to landing pad. Moving backwards and forwards were fine as was banking, but when I tried to fly last few feet Black Rat decided to play.

Again he would behave forwards backwards bank L/R but turning on the spot L/R he did this but he also threw in some reverse as well and consequently landed in a hedge before my brain could react.

What do I need to do to correct this? My Parrafin Parrot friend filming quried if it was an issue with the Giro.

I will take it that it is operator error but where?

All advice gratefully received before lesson 2 Saturday morning.

Does it do it if you are not touching the other stick. What mode is your tx in.

Hi @stevesb.
Thats correct. The only input was.through the left control to turn Black Rat around to face the land pad.

What stick is throttle on, is it the same stick,

Yup left stick

Not sure then as I had a theory if forward/back (aileron) was on that stick you may be pulling back slightly.

Thanks for your time @stevesb. Today went alot better despite trimming a couple of bushes.

My theory is that at the gyro calibration stage because the ground i was on was not flat, flat the gyro was compensating for the error. Therefore when operating the left stick for L/R yaw the gyro error induced a small amout of reverse thrust.

Today I used a.table for all the calibration before take off and all went well.

As for the Bush trimming that was down to operator error. The Holy Stone app continually drops out there by I loose POV on the phone and so I look like a dog walker following a pooch around the garden and misjudging altitude and position. I have a ticket in with HS re the app issue, along with others.I understand.

I am going back to the field Saturday morning. With a camping table for the setup. Along with a flask of coffee.

Once again @stevesb thanks for your time.
