What can make a GPS signal poor? (re: DJI Neo)

It’s a place in Bristol :rofl::rofl:

Did an other little test flight in the garden this time recording some video to see if that had an impact or not.

It was only a 2 min 14 sec flight but it behaved as I wanted too / expected it too.

Looking a screen recording I did - even with the little sat icon being orange with 13 sats the warning message No Sat positioning is present - looking at the data for a bit there is 13 / 14 Sats with a GPS Level of 4 down to 2 prior to take off then with 12 / 14 Sats that level drops to zero - that message only shows twice in the logs so I will ignore them as being anything bad than it was still getting a fix.

Even at 11 sats I had a GPS Level of 2 and at one point I had 27 sats and a GPS Level of 5 ( 6 events were recorded like this )

So maybe the refresh of the firmware along with the IMU and Compass calibration has solved my issues as it seems to have behaved as it should do while recording video.

Will see what happens over the weekend when I hope to take it on a bike ride and get some tracking shots and some cool video on the Chase

MMMM still don’t know if I can trust this little thing.

The active track stuff is amazing - had it follow me around on my mountain bike with no issues at all even though the tree’s. Crazy stuff really. It seems to have more confidence flying around on its own than I do riding some of the trails around Cannock Chase haha

After I had ridden I went to go and get some footage of some POI’s in the area.

It flew well but I did get a Satellite positioning signal weak notification for no apparent reason.

Are these little guys just GPS shy or is there something else going on here ?

I was playing about with the goggles on mine yesterday with the love toy controller

I think I’ve come to the conclusion it’s really made for the socials and the autonomous modes

the tracking is crazy good - here is a track of it following me along what I suspect was the red mountain bike trail as I stopped as there was quite a big drop off that I just do not have the skill set for haha

If you look at the sat image you can see how dense the forest is and it is like that - I will post the video in a few days time and it was able to keep up with me at like 11km/hr ( 6mph ) so a decent running pace ( well for me )

This was also a good 11min long flight in very open area with a max speed of 13mph - I could have gone faster but was not overly sure how well this would work - next time I may give it a bit more speed

but yes its impressive kept track no issue - but remote flying its a bit off and I am not sure it will get much use on a controller but for things like this I will be using it loads!

Totally agree, having lost 2 Neo’s I am careful now when using the remote. My third Neo drops satellite count when oriented southeast or northwest.
It happens hovering in my garden. But also at Cock Ridge (real place) and Mount Hill ( above cock ridge)
Saturday I took it to Chipping Sodbury common (hatters lane). It’s a huge flat area of grassland with nothing around. The Neo’s flight was fine, but it did loose satellite reception many times. Reception appeared 8-14 satellites. Flying as close as possible to the same route using my trusty old Zino mini pro I had zero satellite drops and 16-21 satellites in view.
The Neo will never fly with a remote again.
It will be in a pocket for use with the presets only. I consider it a potential danger with the remote. Neo 2 had a flyaway that took it at very high speed right next to the Bristol ring road. Even at 135 grams I would be started if a drone hit me at 100 mph (drone almost 30 at the time of loss and cars going at least 70 on the road.)
It probably going to damage a bit more than a stone chip. And could cause a car to swerve.

110% feel the same way mate - great for the AI autonomous stuff but via a remote it seems to have a bit of a mind of its own ( maybe the AI is fighting back and Skynet is on its way )

Maybe more Firmware updates are needed to make it 100% reliable - if it had been warmer yesterday I would have tested the remote a bit more but I only managed to do about 3 mins with the remote and my fingers were about to drop off - eek
