What Is Your Longest Distance Flight With A Mini Series Drone

What is your longest distance flight with a mini series drone? Longest distance being that covered, not distance away from home point.

Mine is 11.016km with a Mini 3 Pro round and round and round Douglas Bay in Isle of Man.

Nobody is going to openly admit that one. :joy:

Has anyone else noticed the wind turbine in the distance whilst at The Big Meet. It is just over 3.1 miles away from the TOAL…don’t ask me how I know! :scream:

That’s easy, you measured it on drone scene :ok_hand:t2:

Just checked through my Airdata, um, data, and my longest single flight to date is 4555’, probably nothing exceptional and a good indication of what a wuss I am. In the air for 21minutes 14 seconds, takeoff battery 94% landing battery 17%. This was on top of Garth Mountain NW of Cardiff on March 31st this year with a Mini 4K, in C mode as is most of my flying.

Which makes a bit of a nonsense of my estimated safe maximum range in S mode, which I worked out to be 4 miles. I’m famously useless with maths, so I was probably way off anyway but I reckoned there was enough battery time to manage 8 miles at the drone’s fastest speed. Just asked Gemini, and she (I think of it as ‘she’) says 9.7 miles tops in perfect conditions, so 4 miles out and 4 miles back wasn’t too far off! The video signal is rated for 10 miles, and I’d have enough confidence in the Occusync to attempt this if it were ever to be allowed!

This would make it possible to fly Flat Holm island in the Bristol Channel from Lavernock Point, the site of Marconi’s first over water radio transmission. I said ‘possible’, not that I had any intention of doing it, there are millions (well, hundreds of thousands) of nesting gulls on Flat Holm and we all know what happens when I fly with large groups of angry gulls…

But most of Cardiff would be within range from my patio (I know it’s a patio and not a back yard ‘cos it’s got patio doors), even avoiding the prison FRZ. Flying Roath Park Lake on a Sunday evening when the last bus back is half 6 would be convenient, for example, or a winter sunrise over Rhymni Harbour without leaving my bed! I could fly The Garth from Caerphilly Mountain, a much easier walk from a closer bus stop, or better still, both of them from the beer garden of the ‘Traveller’s Rest’ (which does crackin’ food), then Caerphilly Castle on the next battery. It would make life much more interesting for a droner without a car; there is a lot of good flying within 4 miles of a bus stop around here! If only…

You have a very expensive laser pointer that does distance or a Garmin GPS lol

Yes that…

Although if you remember the drone that went into circle mode at the big meet… Bet that went a distance just circling the meet…

This would be the way to clock up serious distance, either circling or zooming up and down a line in S mode. Might try it over the rec sometime. probably circling which is going to put less strain on things than changing direction.

Just checked airdata for my Mini 3 Pro, longest flight to date was 2,691m or 8800’ . Mainly practice following features, tracks, paths, fence lines. Battery at 90% at take off, landing at 20% 16min 14s of flight time.

What mode, akey? My feeble effort up the Garth was all done in C!

Yer, sure :laughing::laughing:

Was mainly in Normal, with some bits in sport mode to get to the next feature. I also ended up walking around a lot, but didn’t update home point (probably should). I didn’t take any video just a couple of pictures, drone was pretty much moving all the time.

Just read all the replies here and only then noticed the thread title asks ‘ With a Mini Series Drone ‘ …so that excludes my efforts then, as I fly an Air 3

I may have a contender for ‘Cine’ mode distance with my Mini, flight at Porthcawl last Saturday was 6,058 feet, well over a mile! And a bit of an arse-twitcher as there was only 7% battery remaining when I landed! Nearly all this distance was over the sea, btw.

7% is more than enough to travel the 500m back home.

Airdata or it never happened. :winking_face_with_tongue:

The 60’s have been in touch and want their units of measurement back

Perhaps the flight was the same length as six millipedes.

Just over 30,000 feet shorter than mine with my Mini 3 Pro that was also ‘C’ mode.
