fit like loon?
DJI Mini2 in my opinion is probably the best starter drone out there and can be picked up very cheap now. But before you buy one, have a read of this. One of the Mods will be along shortly to give you the rest.

Welcome to the forum by the way. I spent a lot of my childhood in Buckie, my folks had friends up there and I spent a lot of holidays in the area.

Seconded for Mini 2 or any of it’s derivates, but have a look at the DJI Neo as well. You need to think what you want to do with the drone; if it’s selfies and ‘follow me’ video the Neo will save you some money, more or less fly itself, and you can buy more complex controllers for it later. It’ll also pass muster as an FPV drone. Downsides are the level 4 wind resistance and the size, which makes it difficult to see at any serious distance or height.

If your intention is more ‘serious’ photography and videography, the Mini series has better cameras and 3-axis gimbals, and has level 5 wind resistance. Avoid the Mavic Mini as a beginner because of it’s less than robust wifi connectivity.

Don’t buy cheapo drones. They are not good to practice/test the water with, very diffiuclt to control without GPS and impossible to hover. All you’ll learn from them is your mistake! DJI, Autel, Potensic, and Holy Stone are reputable manufacturers, but don’t go for anyting that doesn’t have GPS no matter what other features it does have or how cheap it is.

Many cheapo drones will not allow you any more control over movement than ‘fully on/fully off’ with the joysticks (or virtual sitcks if it is phone-screen control). This makes precise control next to impossible; avoid!

Most of us here will recommend DJI, not because we’re on a retainer (unfortunately) but because this is the obvious go to, world’s biggers hobbydrone maker with 80% of the market, very good reputation for reliability and performance, and with the benefit of their very good no quibble ‘Care Refresh’ insurance/replacement service. Not the cheapest but worth it.

You’ve already made an excellent first move by joining GADC! I’m 8 months in and have had a massive amount of good advice from a friendly bunch of characters!

agreed.

I had a Yuneec Breeze drone…(not exactly the cheapest starter package either) on paper it looked good and whilst I’ll admit the camera images were really nice from the off… it had the worst connectivity and would fly away at the drop of a hat; and did once and landed in the middle of a busy road. fortunately i got it back in one piece and returned the whole thing within the 14 day cooling off period … after some resistance from drones direct.

Mimi 2 and now Mini 4K is another world for start ups
