When Seagulls Attack!

About 20 or 30 Seagulls surrounded me and forced me to land but I caught this one incoming.

Ahh, good ol Southend Seafront. I’ve had the same three mile along the coast at Leigh Old Town. Territorial suckers aren’t they.

Three months ago they didn’t bother me, now it appears we are at the end of the mating season when chicks are born. I was airborne for only 3 minutes and if I didn’t land I would have been brought down for sure

It’s also when fish’n’chip eating tourists come out of hibernation and feed them, and they are protective to their favourite junk food.
Personal theory comparing two locations only miles apart, and only one has f’n’c shops, and the like … and they totally ignore me at the other location.

Just checking: am I right in thinking that Benfleet and Southend Marshes is an SSSI/SPA/Ramsay site?

Not to my knowledge no.

screen grab from last nights mini 3 flight.

they were dive bombing for about 1 min whilst I hovered in one spot then just lost all interest.
the guy on the bench nearest is a fairly new flyer and has a mini 2. but packed up early due to the gulls.

Probably nesting or got young close by.

Fly up to confuse them.

I had the same problem in Kentish Town (North London) a couple of days ago. They weren’t happy.

Normally i do, but was seeing how the mini 3 affected them. This was how i noticed that within a minute they lost interest.

You’ve got bigger li-pos than me - recently flying at 400’ I saw a buzzard glide in to view on the screen. I looked up and saw it was a pair of 'em taking an interest and thought uh-oh. As I flew off at speed they followed (amateur mistake I know). The irony of it all is coming in to land I kissed some bare low hanging branches and… oh shite!

Here’s one that came after me last year

My first encounter with seagulls with the Mini 3 Pro was that they stayed away but boy were they noisy! At least no one on the beach could hear my drone.

My experience was they were more curious with Mini 3 than Mini 2 I assumed it was sound related ?

Last encounter I had they created such a noise I have a large crowd gathered on the seafront watch me dodge the bleeding things.

As in a post above, I think they are only protecting their chippie territory. :stuck_out_tongue:

So …

Some time, I should return to Hythe, near Southampton, and try buying a HUGE bag of chips, chucking them on the mud at low tide, and then see how they react when I try to take off … or, from experience, just start the motors.

Those ones are bastards! :rage:
