White Horse, Osmington, Weymouth by DJI Mini 2

DJI Mini 2 footage of The White Horse, Osmington, Weymouth.
In 1808, it was carved into Osmington Hill on the A353 just outside of Weymouth, Dorset, and was the brainchild of John Ranier, James Hamilton (a local architect) & John Wood (a local land owner).
It was in honour of King George III who used to frequently visit Weymouth. The figure is 85 metres wide and 100 metres high.
In 1989, Anneka Rice and her Challenge Anneka tv series took on the challenge to restore it as it was looking tatty. Unfortunately, they used the wrong stone chippings and the whole 160 tonnes was removed and replaced in 2010.
In 2011, pranksters used plastic sheeting to make it look like it was a Unicorn with a horn.
In 2012, Princess Anne attended a ceremony after the figure was cleaned and trimmed in readiness for the 2012 Sailing Olympics of which Weymouth & Portland was the host borough.
Unfortunately, it’s looking tatty again since the Covid restrictions and cut backs, but hopefully it’ll be back to its prime again soon.
