Wigg Island Meet-up to see Fiddlers Ferry Power Station Cooling Towers demolished 3rd December 2023

I may well yet do the wigg island meet. Depends if we get a bit more timing info before Sunday. Not sure i can sit around by my bike for hours in sub zero temps, while if i go to wiggy at least i can fall back to the car…

Agree Andy, I’m sure they could be specific to within an hour at least. I’ve seen demolitions on the TV where they have actually said the time of demolition to within a few minutes at least a week in advance

I’m about half an hour away from Wigg, so although I’m generally a late riser, I’ll be there for it if they don’t trigger it within the first hour or so, probably. Haven’t met any drone flyers before outside of my GVC exam, so that’ll be nice.

Are we talking about that little car park towards the west end of the island, or somewhere further east, maybe even east of the bridge? Hopefully, either of those areas is far enough away, and lacking LOS enough, that they won’t be too crowded by gawkers without drones.

We normally park up just before the car park, on the road, and use the bench to sit on, the view of the powerstation isnt too bad… We will be aiming to be there ofr 8am, bringing warm clothes, flask of coffee and several drones, plus some camping chairs to sit on - nd perhaps a blanket to wrap up legs in…

I’m guessing that the exact time has been deliberately left vague to put off all but the most determined spectators & photographers. It could be a long wait particularly if the weather isn’t kind. I’m also pleased to see that the wording of the public notice has been revised after the error was highlighted. See you all on Sunday.

I read somehwere that its planned for between 8 and 10 and a siren will go off 5 minutes before… any truth in that, I have no idea

Yellow warning for snow tonight, so fingers crossed we can still get there in the mornuing - aiming to leave here for 715-730am to arrive at Wigg Island about 754-8am…

Going to be wrapping up warm and brinbging a flask of hot drink, plus blanket to wrap in on chairs…

Good luck everyone with capturing the towers coming down tomorrow

Ok, so a friend of mine found some brilliant info…

Having been to 3 of these it’s not an exact science.

Spectators will be about from first light, probably earlier

Andy, where are yu going to be, and can you warn us if you get the nod please? Happy to pass on our mobiles if that works better?

I’m going the other side of the river now… someone posted it earlier in this thread… On mobile at the moment so a bit fiddly to find it…

If you are on Facebook, look for this group

It’s open publicly so anyone can join…

I’ve turned notifications on for the post by Grace Taylor, the button presser…

Happy to share what I hear tomorrow if you still need it?

This is where I’m going…

The towers must be about 380 foot tall… weather might be a bit iffy tomorrow?
Look at the cloud base

Windy has the cloud base at about 230m - 300m during the 8-12 window

I am 100% confident that this won’t happen two days running. :joy:

could be a long cold wait if it does

From the comments on that Facebook group for Great Sankey etc.
